Our Neighborhoods

Greetings!

The Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) has allocated $46,058 in grant funds to SE Uplift for management of the 2012 Neighborhood Small Grant Program.  This grant program provides neighborhood and community-based organizations better opportunities to build community, attract new and diverse members and sustain current membership. Forty-seven eligible grant proposals were received by the November 1 deadline requesting a total of $225,320.

Each year a grant selection committee convenes to review applications and makes recommendations to the SE Uplift Board for approval.  This year the committee was comprised of two members from the SE Uplift Board of Directors, one member from a community-based nonprofit, one member from a business association board and one member from the SE staff.

After evaluation and deliberation, the grant selection committee unanimously recommended the funding of sixteen outstanding projects (read about these projects in details here).

Neighborhood News

The Office of Neighborhood Involvement and SE Uplift are excited to offer the second year of the City of Portland's Graffiti Abatement Community Grants Program. We invite neighborhood associations, businesses and community-based organizations in Portland to apply.  This year, a total of $7,400 is available for projects in the Southeast Uplift coalition area.  Grant proposals may range from $500 to $2,500. Submission Deadline:  Friday, February 24 by 4:00PM

The goal of the Graffiti Abatement Community Grants Program is to support community-driven improvement projects and community building opportunities in the area of graffiti abatement and attempting to repair harm of graffiti on the community.  The funding for this program is limited and therefore places an emphasis on graffiti prevention, graffiti abatement and/or addressing locations chronically tagged with graffiti.

Join the Community Conversation on Wednesday, January 25th from 6-8pm. More details to follow, but the goal is to bring together neighbors, school staff, parents, students and other stakeholders to discuss how things are going this year and brainstorm ways we can work together to develop creative and collaborative ways of strengthening our community. Oregon Partnership has agreed to assist with the facilitation of the meeting, utilizing student leaders and encouraging solution-focused small group discussions. Part of this discussion is to more formally introduce SUN and our services to the broader Franklin community so there is a clear conduit for partnership and communication moving forward. You can find more information on SUN here

When Community Outreach of Our United Villages first opened its doors in July, 2002, we had a vision, hopes and dreams.  Our vision, one we continue to aspire towards, is neighborhoods recognizing and building on the strengths, talents and resources of each individual to create a more vibrant community.  Our hopes and dreams, to bring people together to share ideas and build positive relationships, were so simply stated they were perceived by some as lofty.  Although our pathways for manifesting this dream have varied over the years, our commitment to community is as strong as ever.
Please join us in celebrating community at our Open House:

Add an Accessory Dwelling Unit to your property!!

A $10,000 incentive from the City of Portland is available to homeowners who build accessory dwelling units on their property between now and June, 2013.

If you are a homeowner in the area, maybe you'd like some flexible living space for a family member, or maybe you'd like to have some additional rental income, or maybe you actually want to live in a smaller space that you built yourself and rent out the larger house. It's also notable that building an ADU is one of the most 'green' decisions you can make for your city. Last month, Energy Trust of Oregon recently added ADUs to their list of residential structures eligible to receive a monetary incentive for energy efficient design (for qualifying structures, this incentive can be ~$2K).
