As we transition from the freeze of winter to the thaw of spring, we invite you to share this shelter and warming center information with friends and neighbors in need.

Anyone seeking shelter should contact 211info, reached by dialing 2-1-1. In addition to existing year-round and winter shelter facilities, the following warming center facilities are available:

Family Winter Warming Center:
12505 NE Halsey Street, Portland Oregon

Women's Winter Warming Center:
Call to make reservation 24 hours per day or stop by the Transition Projects office at NW 5th & Glisan. Call 503-823-4930 

Men's Expanded Shelter:
Located at Salvation Army Harbor Light, SW 2nd and Ankeny, between 7:30pm and 7:30am. Call 503-239-1259.

Event location: Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church, 5441 SE Belmont Street
The Friends of Trees' Montavilla and Mt. Tabor neighborhood planting is going to be huge this year with well over 200 trees being planted. We're looking for volunteers to help us get those trees into the ground on Saturday, March 5th from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. We provide coffee and breakfast snacks, gloves, tools, guidance, and then lunch after the event. We ask that planters wear sturdy shoes or boots and appropriate clothing for the weather. Also, please arrive around 8:45 to allow a few minutes to fuel up and sign in for the event. Meeting Notice: March 16, 2011
Entire Board Meeting devoted to  Sellwood Bridge & Tacoma Transportation Corridor Recommended Safety Design Elements Vision Identify and prioritize safety and related features on the SE Tacoma & Sellwood Bridge corridor.

GOALS: Identify safety and related design priorities for the Sellwood Bridge and Tacoma Street corridor - from the bridge to the proposed light rail connection at 99E, and including SE 17th.

On the weekend of May 21st and 22nd, 2011, 40 artists in the Mount Tabor neighborhood will welcome the public into their homes and studios for their sixth annual juried Art Walk. On Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5pm on display will be paintings, jewelry, sculpture, pottery, fiber art, and more at 30 marked sites. The annual event has become a tradition for many Portlanders. Walk or ride your bike to all of the sites and experience the natural beauty of the neighborhood along with the high quality art produced by local artists. You will be able to meet and chat with artists and purchase art directly from them. Maps will be available at each site and can be downloaded from our website www.mttaborartwalk.com . This is a free event.

Portland Plan Fairs roll out comprehensive strategies for a thriving and sustainable city. Portlanders have an opportunity to shape the City's strategies for the future at the upcoming Portland Plan Fairs, starting on March 2. The fairs are designed to offer residents a range of experiences and opportunities to learn about and comment on the strategies. In addition to breakout discussions for each strategy, the fairs will feature booths, presentations, local food and community exhibitors. Free childcare will be provided at all locations.

By hosting a workshop you bring neighbors, friends and interested citizens the opportunity to get involved in creating rain gardens and naturescaping - all for free! The Regional Coalition for Clean Rivers and Streams is forming an online panel to share information about water quality issues in the Portland-Vancouver area. You can join the Clean River Panel online by submitting a brief, demographic survey. And when you join, the coalition enters your name in a raffle for a $500 prize.

The Portland Bureau of Environmental Services is one of eight public agencies and municipalities in the Regional Coalition for Clean Rivers and Streams. The coalition works to raise public awareness of water quality issues and the impacts of stormwater pollution. Take the online survey now and join the panel at www.cleanriverpanel.com.

Miracle Theatre Group welcomes back Mundo de las Mujeres for its fourth year on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in recognition of International Women's Day. This year's program will address cultural and social influences facing Latina teenagers regarding healthy relationships and pregnancy. Following the presentation there will be a panel discussion about these issues.  

 

 

Sharing Ideas: Grassroots Projects Started by Neighbors, sponsored by Community Outreach of Our United Villages.  Highlighting the grassroots efforts of neighbors throughout Portland, panelists will take you inside the story of their projects.  You will learn what sparked their idea, the tools and strategies they used to turn their idea into action and future goals for their project.  Ask questions and discover the possibilities for replicating similar projects in your own neighborhood.

The League of Women Voters is a public policy organization. It works to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government. This program is part of its continuing education program to stay informed about the foundations for Oregon's and Portland's civic life.



ImpactNWThe Rock and Roll Supper Club is a quarterly fundraiser for Impact Northwest's Urban Opportunities' job-readiness program for under-supported youth. The event on March 6th, 2011 will feature performances by the NW Dance Project followed by a five-course meal with choreographers and dancers across the street at Equinox Restaurant. Hosted by Program Manager, Polly Bangs and Owner of Voodoo Doughnut, Tres Shannon. Graduates from the program will be working at the event and all proceeds go to pay youth's wages and pay for future youth's stipends.

    

The Portland Oregon Women's Film Festival 

(POW Fest) places a spotlight on women filmmakers by showcasing their work and strengthening the community of women in film. POW Fest empowers women to find their voice and to share their stories through innovative and quality filmmaking.


 

oregonvolunteers Mini-grant information is available at Oregon Volunteers! for Global Youth Service Days. The competition is for awards up to $1,000 during Global Youth Service Days, April 15 through 17. The projects are to include youth and people with disabilities in the planning and implementation phases which show some type of partnership with an organization that serves people with disabilities.
