| Greetings! | Happy autumn to you! SE Uplift has had a wonderful summer, enjoying community events and sharing time with neighbors. Last night we successfully facilitated the first of two citywide neighborhood association board member orientations aptly titled, "Building Leaders, Building your Board: Best Practices for Effective Neighborhood Associations." Uplift staff was happy to meet neighborhood association board members from all across the city! The second orientation is this Tuesday, September 28th at NE Coalition of Neighbors.
Now is the time to apply for Neighborhood Small Grants! Since 2007, ONI and SE Uplift have partnered to offer the annual Neighborhood Small Grants Program. The deadline is November 1st!
SE Uplift staff will be enjoying happy hour at Migration Brewing on Wednesday, 9/29 from 5-7pm mingling with our coalition neighbors - let us know if you can stop by to say hello! RSVP: tim@southeastuplift.org

|  The SE Portland Tool Library, in conjunction with the Community Energy Project, is sponsoring a Weatherization Workshop Thursday, September 30th from 6:30 to 8:30pm at St. David's Episcopal Church, 2800 SE Harrison. In the words of the sponsors: "This Do-It-Yourself Weatherization Workshop will give you the materials, actions, and tips tp help lower your energy bill, keep your home warmer, and do your part to protect the climate!" Hands on demonstrations show how to install effective weatherization materials for both renters and homeowners alike. Income qualified Multnomah County residents receive free weatherization materials. Order forms will be available to folks not qualified to receive a free kit. Call the Community Energy Project at 503-284-6827 to sign up! Don't miss South Tabor's Harvest Festival THIS Sunday, September 26th from noon until 7:30pm. Trinity Fellowship Church, 2700 SE 67th Ave. Join us for the kick-off BBQ, live music from the Sugarcane String Band and other local bands, arts & crafts, cider pressing and canning and gardening workshops. Learn more about aromatherapy, acupuncture and Tai Chi. Sip on tea provided from the City Repair Project's Tea Horse. A harvest exchange will be happening all day, so be sure to bring fresh produce from your garden, plants, seeds, recipes and more to trade with others! A community soup feed and lantern walk will close the event. Clean baby jars are needed at the event, so if you have them bring them!  On 10/10/10, millions of people across the globe are getting to work solving the climate crisis. This " Global Work Party" will be a MASSIVE opportunity to celebrate climate solutions at the local level--and put the pressure on our leaders while doing so. There are thousands of events taking place around the world today, from women in Pakistan learning how to use solar ovens, to students in Zimbabwe installing solar panels on a rural hospital, to sumo wrestlers in Japan riding their bicycles to practice.  Climate Action Plan One-Year Update The City of Portland/Multnomah County Climate Action Plan was adopted one year ago this October. The Plan seeks to reduce carbon emissions by 80% of 1990 levels by 2050, with specific goals to be reached by 2012. The CAP focuses on: buildings and energy, urban form and mobility, consumption and solid waste, urban forestry and natural systems, food and agriculture, community engagement, climate change preparation, and local government operations. Local traffic and transportation issues, transportation options, and how to get things done in your neighborhood are the focus of this well-respected, ten-week, university course.
