| Greetings! | On Thursday, July 8th, SE Uplift celebrated a newly elected board by hosting an old fashioned ice cream social. Neighborhood leaders, community members, staff and friends of the coalition came by for a treat, great conversation and lots of smiles. Congratulations to the new SE Uplift Board! SE Uplift is excited for the coming year and applauds Chair, Bryan Agee of Mt. Scott-Arleta; Vice Chair, Jeff West of Buckman; Treasurer, Pete Jacobsen and Secretary, Julie Ratcliff!SE Uplift's outgoing board Chair, Marianne Colgrove, recognized Paul Leistner for his dedication to SE Uplift and the coalition by serving on the SE Uplift Executive Committee for six years. And Anne Dufay, SE Uplift's Executive Director, offered thanks to Marianne Colgrove for her outstanding leadership as the SE Uplift Board Chair.

 $8486 in Grant Funds Available for your Neighborhood! The Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) recently announced the availability of funds through a new Graffiti Abatement Community Grants Program. The application deadline is August 2th! For more information, click HERE!
National Night Out - Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 National Night Out is a unique community event, celebrated in the United States and Canada, that focuses on prevention of crime and drug activity, and is held the first Tuesday of August every year.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: Heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention; Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back Promote emergency preparedness awareness
Our first Workshop will be about Rain Barrels ! Saturday August 7, 2010 - 2pm - 4pm In the Fireside Room at St. David of Wales Church, 2800 SE Harrison St.
The two hour class will cover all aspects of creating, deploying, and using Rain Barrels here in Portland. Class size will be limited to the first 30 people to sign up. The workshop is free, but donations will be (graciously) accepted. Sign up by calling 503-232-0699 and leaving your name, phone number and email address, so we can get back to you. The SE Portland Tool Library (SEPTL) and is located at St. David's Episcopal Church, 2800 SE Harrison. We look forward to seeing you at the tool library.
Since the beginning of June, Buckman Portland Farmers Market in southeast Portland has seen a significant increase in distribution  of food assistance funds to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamp) participants. A Portland Business Alliance Leadership Portland team developed the food assistance matching program, called Fresh Exchange. Fresh Exchange is modeled after Foodshare Fund Northeast, a nutrition incentive program offered at the King Portland Farmers Market. Both markets are two of the six urban Portland Farmers Markets.  The Backyard Habitat Certification Program is a collaborative effort between the Audubon Society of Portland, Columbia Land Trust, and many other partners. This citywide program to engage and recognize urban landowners (under 1 acre) in invasive plant removal, storm water management, and in creating backyard habitats.
Calling all neighborhood activists interested in transportation issues. The Portland Bureau of Transportation and Portland State University are offering a FREE class just for you. Local traffic and transportation issues, transportation options, and how to get things done in your neighborhood are the focus of this well-respected, ten-week, university course. Community Town Hall regarding the upcoming 2011 State of Oregon Legislative Session. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 2, 2010 from 6:30 PM to 9 PM at City Hall, City Council Chambers, 1221 SW 4th Avenue, Second Floor. This event will inform community representatives about the City's process for developing the legislative agenda and provide us with an opportunity to hear from you about issues facing your neighborhood and communities.
