The Land Use and Sustainability Committee meets June 21, 2010 from 7pm to 9pm at SE Uplift. We hope to see you there!

2010 Village Building Convergence
Village Buidling Convergence 2010

Greetings!

The summer weather is finally upon us after all the rain. There is lots to do in SE in the coming months, both land use and sustainability related and just for plain ole' fun.

In June, the LUSC will be discussing the on-going issues with wireless antenna installation in neighborhoods, we will get an update on the Bike Master Plan and we will talk more about the Portland Plan and unimproved streets in SE Portland.

In other planning related news, the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability is beginning an update to the 1988 Central City Plan. The Central City includes much more than just the downtown area, but the Central Eastside Industrial District and other surrounding neighborhoods as well. The development of the new Central City Plan will be in conjunction with the continued work on the Portland Plan, which is intended to be the roadmap for Portland in the next 25 years. More information about the new Central City Plan can be found here.

This Saturday, June 19th,  SE Uplift, in conjunction with NECN, is hosting a community forum to discuss how our public land is managed by our public agencies. There is strong  pressure from the development community to have access to parks and vacant school lands. We want to give the public an opportunity to get  information about public land stewardship and determine whether community interests are served when agencies sell public lands. Please join us for this important event!

Finally, if you are looking for some bike-related fun, we are currently in the midst of Pedalpalooza, two weeks of great bike events from the Sunset Mystery Ride to a bike tour of unimproved streets in N/NE Portland. There is an event for everyone. Check out the events here. Have a wonderful time and ride safe!

A Tale of Three Cities
Throughout 2010, city planners are polling Portlanders via surveys and workshops to help create the new Portland Plan. What will our city and our region look like in 2035? How will it function? Other cities have been through this process. What can we learn from them? How can Portland capitalize on the process and progress of others? Key city planners will present a tale of three cities as examples for group discussion.  Come be a part of this informative and timely conversation!
