Last Chance for the Playlist Theater Tonight!- Tickets Still Available!!

Thank You
By Ray

The Crew with Marshall Crenshaw

I guess this is my last chance to say thank you as the producer of shows at the Playlist Theater.

Thank you to our loyal patrons. Thanks for trusting us with the unknown artists. Thanks for supporting us with the known artists. There are some of you I know that have made more than 90% of the shows we have done. Thanks for making the artists feel so appreciated. So many times over the past five years I have heard compliments on how respectful, attentive and appreciative you are and how rare that is to find these days.

Thank you to all of the local musicians who substituted as our engineer when Bernie was not available. Thanks to Jay for archiving many of the shows for safe keeping. It will allow us to go back in time. Thanks to Greg for all the great photography.

Thanks to my staff helping me live out this dream. You are first to come and the last leave.

Thanks to my wife Rita for letting me live out this dream for the last five years.

Tom schmoozing David Lindley

Thanks to Tom. Your musical aptitude was so impressive to many of the artists. Your introductions were inspired. You are the King of Schmooze.

Thanks to Bernie for the amount of time he donated to each show. He was constantly looking to make improvements wherever he could, no matter how much effort it took. During the moments something did go wrong he was always the voice of calm and reason. Without Bernie, the show would not go on.

Last but not least thanks to Bernie and Tom together for the idea, giving me the confidence to do this and the support. Through all of it our friendship has flourished. It has been fun!

We are going out with a bang! Robbie Fulks and Bill Kirchen were two of the best shows that graced our stage. At this point I could not get a ticket for my mother for Bill Kirchen on Friday. There are still tickets for tonights nights show - Robbie Fulks with Nora O'Connor. Last call for the Playlist Theater!

Four Roses Bourbon

By Jimmy

four roses bourbonWe just recently brought in a new bourbon whiskey that we think you may want to try. Ray has been drinking Four Roses Bourbon for the last few years and it has become one of his favorites. I'm not sure why we haven't had this here until now, it must have been his little secret. Four Roses is a bourbon that is distilled and bottled in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The history of this bourbon dates back to the mid 1860's when Paul Jones Jr., the distillery's founder, fell in love. He had just started to make his own bourbon and needed a name. When he proposed to his new love in a letter, she replied that if her answer was yes, she would wear a rose corsage to the upcoming grand ball. Well, the rest is history because on that evening, she walked in wearing a corsage of four red roses. In naming his bourbon, Four Roses, it was a symbol of his devout passion for his lovely wife and his work in making his whiskey.

What makes Four Roses different than many other Kentucky bourbons is that it is the only distillery that combines five different yeasts with two separate mash to produce ten different recipes. Each has its own unique character. Each is bottled separately into a collection of small batches and single barrels. Although each is bottled separately, they are also combined into one unique blend. When combining all ten of these recipes, the end result is Four Roses Yellow. This is what we have just received. A bourbon that has hints of honey, apple and pear on the nose and finishes soft and smooth. This bourbon was the 2010 World Whiskey Award winner for best bourbon 7 years and under. This is another great addition to our bourbon selection. Next time you are in, try a glass of Four Roses.

Changing Seasons

Patio Dining

By Ryan

The time is quickly approaching. The trees are in bloom, the tulips are starting to pop up and the Uptown patio is being put back together. While the 10 day forecast doesn't look too great, we all know that could change in a heartbeat. We do live in Illinois, after all.

To me, our patio has a very cozy relaxed atmosphere. The patio is great for just appetizers and a few drinks or a three course meal. Either way, it's the best patio to dine on in the area. Stay tuned, as it could be open any day. We'll let those that sign up for our daily specials, be the first to know.

Things to Try This Week
thing to try
Here are three things picked by our staff, the people who know our menus the best, that they think stand out from the more than 500 items you will find on our food and drink menu.

From Brett (Uptown Host) - Lemon Shakeup -  Whenever I come into Uptown to have dinner, I always order the lemon shake up as my drink. It's the perfect refreshing drink to have on warm spring day. Lemon shake ups are available in regular, cherry, strawberry and diet. The regular is made with fresh squeezed lemon juice, water, and foaming bar sugar. In the diet lemon shake up we use splenda as substitute for sugar. You dont need to go to carnival to have a lemon shake up this good, it's so good it puts a carny to shame.

From Ryan
- Shrimp & Pancetta Pasta - When dining out one of the first things on a menu that I look at is the pasta selection. When I find a nice pasta dish at a restaurant, I usually will go back and have that same dish over and over again. Well, I think I found one on our menu that would make me go back for seconds. The only problem is, it's on special which means it won't be around soon. Our shrimp, pancetta, carrot, portobello mushroom, shallot and asparagus with fusilli pasta is a fantastic combination. I really like the light white wine cream sauce that puts it all together. I know I will have this again soon and if you want to try it, get in here soon.

From Jimmy - Herb Roasted Duck Breast - I had never really had much duck breast before. I have tried it, thought it was ok but not something I would order off a menu. It does have an aquired taste. I did get to try some of what we have prepared this week and it is great. Definetly something I recommend. We roast a duck breast in herbs and seasonings to medium temperature and serve it with a baby carrots and a wild rice and lentil blend. To finish it off, we serve it with a cherry jus. A perfect combination.

Robbie Fulks is a singer/songwriter originally from
Pennsylvania but is a long time Chicago, Illinois resident. He is one of the more noticeable talents in the alternative
country movement, displaying an offbeat, sometimes dark sense of humor in many of his best moments. As time passed, Fulks moved away from the country twang of his early work and into a crunchier roots rock hybrid. You might remember Nora O'Connor as a member of the Blacks. Folks in her native Chicago also know the talented singer as a bartender, a midwife's assistant, and an ordained reverend.
