Paul Cebar and Tomorrow Sound Friday, September 18th
With a bracing, fiercely creative voice Paul is a
native Wisconsinite. Chicago & Milwaukee locals know his longtime band as
the Milwaukeeans, but he has recently changed its' name to "Tomorrow Sound".
A high energy reggae, blues funk ensemble featuring 5 pieces and
including Mike Fredrickson (played here with Robbie Fulks in January). This
show is also on a Friday night. If you combine the best aspects of the Chess and Checker
labels, the most soulful Stax grooves, and some Afro-Cuban rhythms, you might
end up with Milwaukee's own Paul Cebar. Backed by his groove brothers, Cebar is
Milwaukee's leading song-and-dance soul man. He's also potent on record- his
new "TOMORROW SOUND NOW FOR YES MUSIC PEOPLE" sounds a bit like a more soulful
James Hunter or funkier Los Lobos.
He performed last fall at the Green Mill in Chicago with
none other than Nick Lowe,(see photo) a show for the ages. -Ray |
Hegler Carus Mansion
Just minutes from us is The Hegeler Carus Mansion. Designated a National Historic Landmark in March 2007, it is one of the midwest's great Second Empire structures. Built in 1876 by Edward C. Hegeler, partner in nearby Matthiessen Hegeler Zinc Company, the mansion was designed by Chicago architect William W. Boyington. Boyington is noted for the Chicago Water Tower and completion of the Illinois State Capitol among other buildings.
Currently it is owned and operated by the Hegeler Carus Mansion Foundation. Virtually unaltered since its completion more than a century
ago, visitors today experience
the grandeur of a bygone era and the heritage of a fascinating family
whose history is woven tightly with that of the Illinois Valley. The Hegeler Carus Mansion was initially home to Hegeler and his family. His son-in-law, Dr. Paul Carus, later moved his family into the house, and the main headquarters of the Open Court Publishing Company
was located on the first level of the house. It is here that Carus
wrote over 70 books, countless articles and served as editor of two publications.
The house was later occupied mainly by Carus' children.
In recent years, grandson Blouke Carus
and others have initiated restoration, creating the Hegeler Carus
Mansion Foundation in the 1990s. The Hegeler Carus Mansion, also known
as the "Big House," is open for
public tours. Visitors are impressed with the amazing high Victorian stencils and wall and ceiling paintings, the woodwork and the history. The most recent project was launched in late 2008, to restore the mansion's gymnasium and its apparatus. Tours are available Wednesdays through Sundays, only $7 for adults and $6 for seniors. Have lunch with us and experience the best of both past and present. - Kris

Our Banquet Kitchen
We consistently strive to prepare the freshest meals
possible, not only in the dining room, but also in our banquet
facility. Many restaurants that handle large parties require the
guests to pre order weeks ahead of time and prepare
those meals many hours in advance and just heat the product and serve. Our banquet kitchen is a separate cooking line
from our main dining room. Although there is some prep work involved
ahead of time, we primarily prepare everything just before serving
the meal. Our bread is proofed and baked fresh that day, our vegetables
are chopped just hours before and salad is assembled on chilled plates
just before serving. Meals are not required to be pre ordered, Our
servers take each persons order just before salad service. While you
are eating your salad, your entree is on the grill or in the oven being
cooked. All orders are prepared in about 15 minutes and served on pre
heated plates to insure that meals are always served fresh and hot!
Call or visit our web site when planning your
next rehearsal dinner, reception, business meeting or shower. - Jimmy |

Terry Evans June 3rd
Terry Evans' & Hans Theessink's album, "Visions," was nominated for the 2009 Acoustic Album of the Year by the Blues Foundation. This is Terry's 4th show with us. A sell out every time, those of you who have seen him know how great this show is. Get your tickets before they are gone. Like many blues
artists, his first exposure to music
was in church, where he sang in the junior choir. As is often the case,
his parents allowed him to sing only gospel, but on the sneak, he
listened to blues artists such as Elmore James, Little Walter, Albert King, and B.B. King.
His first break was as a member of a Southern vocal group, the
Knights. From there, he moved to Southern California and began picking
up guitar and writing songs. Among the songs he wrote were "Love Is a Precious Thing," which was recorded by Pops Staples, and "Hop, Skip, and Jump," recorded by Louie Jordan.
In the '70s, he performed as a duo with Bobby King, performing on the chitlin circuit to purvey their brand of Stax-styled soul and gospel. A hard-working performer, Evans continued with King while at the same time working as a background vocalist for Ry Cooder, both on Cooder's albums and in the touring band. Evans' breakthrough came during the movie Crossroads, where he sang lead on "Down in Mississippi" and the title piece during the film.
Evans released his first solo album, Blues for Thought while providing backing vocal tracks for Lloyd Jones' Trouble Monkey, He then recorded two albums, Puttin' It Down and Come to the River in 1997. Walk That Walk followed in early 2000; Mississippi Magic was issued a year later. - Kris
