Creating a Safety Culture hazard sign

If a workplace is to be successful at preventing accidents and injuries, it is often necessary to change an organization's culture. Changing an organization's attitude toward safety can be challenging, and effective, lasting change generally only happens when senior management makes an absolute commitment to adopting safety as a top priority. Unfortunately, many companies only commit to a safety culture when...Click Here For The Full Story
WORKPLACE FATALITY
ladderGuess Canada Fined $50,000 for Worker Injury

On May 14, 2009, Guess Canada, a national clothing and accessories retailer, was fined $50,000 for a violation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) after a worker was seriously injured.

The incident happened on October 7, 2007, at the company's Bloor St. W. location. A worker was attempting to return a box to the top shelf, by standing on an eight-foot, A-frame ladder in the storage room. The ladder gave way and the worker ...Click Here For The Complete Article
JOKE OF THE DAY

shoeHow Smart Is Your Right Foot? Trust me try this, it takes only few seconds.

This is so funny and will boggle your mind. You will keep trying it to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!!!

Young Worker Killed

According to Quebec's workers' compensation board, the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST), gaps in training and a deficient occupational health and safety program was the main cause of an accident last year near James Bay that claimed the life of one young worker and seriously injured another.

The CSST report charged the employer, Fernand Gilbert ltée, with failing to protect the health and safety of its workers, in an incident  that took place on January 11, 2008, while working on part of the $2 billion Rupert River diversion project. The two workers were replacing

WORKER'S ACTIONS CONTRIBUTED TO ACCIDENT
Employer Fine Reduced

In a reminder that workers and employers both have a responsibility regarding safety, the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) in British Columbia has ruled that an administrative penalty should be reduced by 20%, after it was determined that a worker's actions partially contributed to the accident in which he was injured.

The decision alters a WorkSafeBC order from November, 2007 that imposed a $29,500 administrative penalty against the employer in question. The ordered reduction will reduce the penalty to about $23,500.

The accident in question occurred on September 8, 2006, when a worker's arm...Click Here For The Complete Article

FOOD FOR THOUGHT...

You can't hold back the ripples once a pebble has broken the calm of a lake's surface. Neither can you control the ever-widening, ever-damaging effects of water ripplesan unkind word, once it has entered the ear of another.

GREEN FLEET EXPO

Green Fleet Ground Force Training had the great privilege of participating in the Green Fleet Expo held on May 21, 2009 at the Royal Botanical gardens in Burlington. It was an excellent day of information sharing and technology introductions. One could not walk away at the end of the day without realizing that, with the pace of advancement, it will not be long before we see "pure" Green Vehicles everywhere.

Rich Dal Bello, our Logistics and Business Development Manager, did a presentation on "Lessons Learned by the Canadian Forces" from his days when he was the Base Transportation Officer at CFB Borden.

Making Road Crews Safe
