Snow makes it hot!
Being a supervisor can be frustrating, challenging and some days you just can't win. This is especially true at this time of year when you have to deal with things like operator fatigue, equipment breakdowns, storm clean ups and dealing with hazardous conditions. Add to that the level of service that everyone expects, in fact, even attempting the odd miracle that some people think it's your job to perform and the pressure mounts.
And you've got to stay within budget too!
If that is not enough, you are also responsible to provide a safe work environment for your workers. Well, we can't tell you how to perform miracles but we can tell you that if your operators are properly trained, your equipment is maintained and you have a good communication process in place you will be more efficient; you will have fewer collisions and you will get the job done faster... | SAFETY ADVICE FROM THE THREE STOOGES |

Back in the Day...
Anyone who works in the safety advisor field owes it to themselves to watch some Three Stooges now and then. There's something about seeing three guys nearly kill each other thanks to a poor idea of on-the-job safety...its validating, in a way. This is the reason you got into this field: To keep things like this from happening. Anyway, I thought I'd list a few things that can be culled from Three Stooges and put to use in actual on-the-job safety measures. ...click here for the complete articleBack in the good old days, the most dangerous television we could watch was the Three Stooges. Nowadays, even TV commercials can be so realistic looking. Take a look below at a TV commercial the WSIB put out to shock people into the realization that they need training. Taxi Driver
A passenger in a taxi tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him something. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, then the driver said "Please don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me".
The passenger, who was also frightened, apologized and said he didn't realize that a tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much to which the driver replied "I'm sorry, its really not your fault at all. Today is my first day driving a cab. I have been driving a hearse for the last 25 years."

| A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON |
|
The Hard Hat...
This is work talking about because, if you work in an industrial environment (and you like your skull the way it is), you wear a hard hat, and the hard hat actually has some neat history behind it. With that in mind, I figured a Brief History of the Hard Hat might make for an interesting read. Consider it a little known piece of job safety trivia you can use to impress people with the next time you're at a party with nothing to say. Here's something not everybody knows...
