"Good course, I enjoyed it. There was a lot of material to cover in one day. I've taken different  courses for different topics, but I have never been in one that put everything together in one course.

Each month, thousands of municipal supervisors, managers and administrators across Canada receive this newsletter. We are frequently contacted by individuals who have questions about specific training or wish to share particular challenges they encounter during operator skill development. Safety is a serious business, but we hear some entertaining stories that would be worth sharing.

So here's where you come in...

Send us something that can be published in this newsletter. It can be a funny incident that happened during a training event or it could be a serious piece on the difficulties experienced in road construction (or ploughing, mowing, grading etc.) It could be ideas on training programs you need, or a positive experience that has happened since your operators were last trained. Your story can be anything to do with safety and training, municipal work, heavy equipment or just a funny story.

The Rules
  • The story must be your own (i.e. no plagiarism)
  • 200 words or less
There is a common thread among us and we can all benefit from each other's experiences.

We are looking forward to reading your story.

Guelph Construction Company Fined $200,000 After Death of Worker

Cox Construction Limited of Guelph, was fined $200,000 in the Ontario Court of Justice, in connection with the death of a worker at a road construction project.

JOKE OF THE DAY
Phone Lines

A young businessman had just started his own firm. He had just rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with antiques. He saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear the hot shot, the businessman picked up the phone and started to pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge figures around and made giant commitments.

Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, I've come to activate your phone lines."
SAFETY SUPERVISORS
What Do They See?

As military Safety Supervisors the Ground Force Instructors have a different way of looking at things. We are all very well versed in the rules and regulations of day to day operation but also know how to get the work done in the most economical and safest manner. One of the pre-req's to joining the team is to attend the Operator Supervisory Course Level 1 which is a course designed to teach supervisors how to see... Click Here For Full Story

FOOD FOR THOUGHT...

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be on some days - but being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube.

DO YOU EMPLOY TEMP WORKERS?

Jump Start Your Winter Training!trackless snowplow

All operators, including temps, should perform a dry run of routes to identify hazards that may not be visible once the snow falls. There are many obstacles and complications that can occur while plowing, therefore operator training PRIOR to snow arrival is essential to prepare workers. Regardless of a worker's qualifications, employers must never leave a new temp to work unsupervised before ensuring he/she can safely perform the required task.

Temporary Workers
If you use temporary workers for sidewalk plowing, they need training on equipment such as
  • Holder
  • Trackless
  • Skid Steer
  • Attachments (brush, blower, plow etc.)
Job orientation and safety training are extremely important for temp workers. Contact us today to ensure your temporary workers are properly trained!
