Powering Hope in Haiti

Amid the destruction from the earthquake in Haiti are tangled lines and shattered substation equipment.  Flint is a part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, NRECA, which has a Foundation promoting power in needy nations around the globe. The NRECA International Foundation's emergency response team was the first energy-sector assessment team to arrive in Port-Au-Prince and conduct on-the-ground inspections.
An arrangement between the NRECA International Foundation and the online payment site PayPal will allow the Foundation to receive donations to its Haiti Relief Fund without paying transfer fees. The waiver means 100 percent of the funds donated to the Foundation through PayPal will go directly to electricity restoration projects in Haiti. The waiver is retroactive to January 12 and will remain in place until February 11.

If you are interested in helping fund the specific cause of re-powering Haiti, make a PayPal donation through the International Foundation Web site. Just click on "Make a Donation."

Or you may prefer to support another meaningful cause to help Haiti like Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and many more. Just beware of scams and be sure you use a reputable organization for donations.

Weathering high bills in winter

Flint Energies wants to remind its members that cold weather snaps can push electric bills upwards.
"With very low temperatures in the forecast, it's important to remember that we can't control the weather, but we can curb our home's energy usage," Flint Energies SVP of Member and Community Relations, Jimmy Autry says. "When temperatures plummet, electric bills typically go up."
