US House Passes Climate Change Bill Which Could Dramatically Raise Electricity Costs
The United States House of Representatives passed
a climate change bill in June. Action now moves to
the US Senate. Electric cooperatives all over the
country achieved enough compromise in the House
bill that co-op members agreed not to oppose the
legislation. But we did not support it either.
Electric cooperative members are firmly agreed that
any future bill that comes out of the US Senate must
be workable, affordable, and flexible....which the
House bill is not. Much change will need to occur
before electric cooperative members are well-served
by such a law.
Here's how the vote played out among Georgia
Representatives: AYE - Bishop, Johnson, Lewis,
Scott NAY- Barrow, Broun, Deal, Gingrey,
Kingston, Linder, Marshall, Price, Westmoreland
NOTE: Reps. John Barrow and Jim Marshall were 2
of 44 Democrats voting against final passage.
July Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) Will Be A Credit
The Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA)
listed on Flint Energies member bills will be
a credit of $0.0140 in July. On all bills rendered
during the month, the separate line item called WPCA
will be shown as -$0.0140 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
On a member's average bill of 1500 kilowatt hours,
this will amount to a credit of $21.00 on the July bill.

CEO Bob Ray Honored with National Award
Bob Ray, Chief Executive Officer at Flint Energies, has
been named the 2009 CEO Outstanding
Communicator by the Cooperative Communicators
Association (CCA). Since 1992, the CCA has been
awarding its CEO Outstanding Communicator Award.
The award recognizes the commitment of a
cooperative chief executive officer to open
communications as an integral part of an effective
management style. CCA represents cooperatives of
every kind including electric, telephone, producer, and
farmers. Mr. Ray is only the second CEO of an electric
distribution system ever honored in this
way.
"It is an
honor to be acknowledged nationally by the
Cooperative Communicators Association for
successful initiatives," said Ray. "However, while my
name happens to be on the plaque, the recognition
for the work is so much bigger than
me." "The examples cited as basis for the
award relate directly to a supportive Board of
Directors, but even more, a family of employees who
are willing to invest the time, energy, and skills into a
healthy and successful dialogue that all support
serving our members better."
