Did you know it is our 15th anniversary this year? 
Recently, I had the opportunity to share our story at the Diana International Conference on Women's Entrepreneurship Research 2010, an event that brought together a global network of researchers committed to advancing knowledge about women's entrepreneurship and high-growth ventures. It was a tremendous opportunity to highlight our organization's significant track record of strong economic impact and relevance to women entrepreneurs in Western Canada.  Even more exciting were the follow up conversations about opportunities to move women's entrepreneurship forward in our province, region, country, and around the world. AWE CEO Tracey Scarlett recently presented a paper on the significant economic impact of the Women's Enterprise Initiatives at the DIANA International Conference on Women's Entrepreneurship on August 3-4, 2010 in Banff, AB. To read Tracey's paper, click here.
AWE COO Erin Hanson also donated her time and expertise as a guest judge for SIFE's Snatch the Pebble project on July 19, 2010. 
The Snatch the Pebble program is an innovative 6 week course created by SIFE Mount Royal students to help teach new entrepreneurs effective steps to advance their business. Read more...

Roadmap for Success
This one session, 3 hour workshop led by an AWE business advisor provides an introduction on how to develop a business plan.  This workshop will help you learn how to:    
  1. Draft the basic components of a good business plan that will help you move forward with confidence
  2. Conduct informative marketing research
  3. Create financial plans that will support business viability
Included in the $45+GST cost of the series is a comprehensive workbook with detailed information, business plan samples, and lists of resources.

Growth Bootcamp
With overwhelming response to the half day workshops in both Edmonton and Calgary, Randy Thompson, CEO of VentureAlberta Angel Forum, will be facilitating a 2-Day Bootcamp for AWE in Calgary this September. Randy Thompson has been involved with technology start-ups since 1990. As the founder of the first Internet Service Provider, and his building of the first two angel groups in Alberta, Randy has put an active stamp on well over 100 start-ups in Western Canada and USA. Currently, Randy is the CEO of the VentureAlberta Angel Forum. With over 50 members across Alberta, the Forum has funded 48 companies since 2005. Randy also built Deal Generator, an Angel group of TEC Edmonton and CTI. In addition, Randy currently acts as the Entrepreneur in Residence for NAIT and was recently featured in NAIT's techlife magazine. Small Business Week
Small Business Week runs October 18-22, 2010 and is a celebration of entrepreneurship that  provides an annual opportunity for start-up and growing small businesses to learn and grow. 
The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce  will celebrate small business by presenting a prestigious award in three categories: companies with 10 or under full-time employees; companies with 50 or under full-time employees; and, companies with 100 or less full-time employees. The Calgary Chamber of Commerce will also be honouring small business by offering the RBC Small Business of the Year award and the Emerging Enterprise of the Year award. For more information click here.
