Ask An Expert
This month's expert is Kim Duke, The Sales Diva and our June AWE-Inspiring luncheon speaker in Calgary on June 24. Register now. Q: How do I make the most of the connections I made at Innovative Approaches to Success?
Commit 30 minutes per day to the MOST IMPORTANT activity you need to do in SALES ...follow up. What is the point of networking and attracting business if you don't follow-up and through with your client base? Before you know it - you lose top of mind awareness and you're back to spinning your wheels and eating rubber chicken at too many network functions.
Remember - you HAVE TO BE "Circling the orbit of your potential customer/customer" with follow-up at least once every 30 days. (By the way that doesn't mean you turn into a sales stalker either.)
So what does that look like?

CEO's Message
"Aren't you something?!" Oprah Winfrey was referring to Ben Barry, the 24 year old dynamo modeling agency entrepreneur that is transforming the beauty industry through his use of real models. Every one of us who had the opportunity to hear Ben speak at our Innovative Approaches to Success conference April 1-3, 2009 echoes this thought. Ben looked at an industry from an innovative perspective and by simply using real women in an ad campaign for Dove, product sales increased by over 700%! Now his (non size 0) models appear on the runways of major fashion shows and designers are actually making sample sizes in sizes that fit real women. That is innovation! I love that story because it shows how solving a business problem with an innovative solution can drive your business growth and have a positive economic impact on a company as well as a societal effect; making money with a conscience. Our conference was a huge success and I am so proud of the team here at Alberta Women Entrepreneurs for ensuring the 170 women in attendance made connections with other women, were inspired to grow their businesses and learned about how looking at your business in a slightly different way can have a major impact on the bottom line. We are applying innovative approaches to our business at AWE as well. We recently launched our NextStep to Success program for Aboriginal women that includes business development support, peer mentorship and micro-loans to qualified businesses. Also, we are working with a broad network of partners and service providers to help you realize success in your businesses, regardless of sector or region. For example, we created a showcase for these organizations to share information on their programs to women from around the province who were sponsored to attend our conference. Our upcoming AWE inspiring luncheon May 20 in Edmonton features Angela Santiago who has innovated in agricultural production to evolve from a commodity potato producer into a company that sells a branded high value product to major grocery chains. Look around your businesses and think about how you can innovate your approach to business and realize success. As always, please contact me if you have any comments or suggestions. Celebrating NextStep to Success AWE officially launched the NextStep to Success program for Aboriginal women with a celebration on March 20 in Edmonton.
Speakers included the Honourable Hector Goudreau, Minister of Alberta Employment and Immigration, who remarked on the significant economic contributions of entrepreneurs in Alberta, including Aboriginal people. AWE's Tracey Scarlett and Marcela Mandeville, Programs and External Relations Manager provided a brief history of NextStep to Success' evolution and the opportunities offered by the program.
Beatrice Floch, an Aboriginal woman and successful AWE client, shared her inspiring story of starting a business focused on connecting Aboriginal people to employment that has grown from a $28,000 AWE loan to a business that generates approximately $1.5 million in revenue per year.
The event concluded with a powerful honour song for women. Thank you to everyone who joined our circle, in spirit or in person, to celebrate the beginning of our journey to develop and celebrate economic opportunities for Aboriginal women in Alberta. |
