Happy New Year!

I love this time of year - it is time to reflect on the successes and challenges of the past year and to put plans in place for the upcoming year.  For many of you, as business owners, you may have just completed a very busy retail season so it is time to catch your breath. For others, the seasonal slowdown and vacation time of the Christmas break has affected your December revenues and cash flow so you need to work twice as hard in January to make up this difference.  Regardless of what challenges you might see looming on the horizon, the industry you work in, or the size of your business, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs is here to assist you in realizing success.

What does Credit History mean?
If you have ever taken out a loan or used a credit card, you will now have established a Credit History.

Having a good credit history is very important. For example, a lender can refuse to give you a loan or a landlord can refuse to rent to you if you have bad credit.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Eric Thurman is one of the world's leading experts in international philanthropy. He is a popular public speaker and appears frequently in news interviews, which recently include the Financial Times, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Time and CNN. He has extensive experience directing micro credit programs. Earlier in his career as CEO of Opportunity International and HOPE International he managed poverty lending programs in more than 30 countries.

Events are taking place in CALGARY on March 3rd and EDMONTON on March 4th.

ABOUT THE BOOK: A Billion Bootstraps shows why micro credit is the world's most powerful poverty-fighting movement and an unbeatable investment for your charitable donations. It unearths the roots of the micro credit revolution, revealing how the pioneering work of people such as Dr. Muhammad Yunus - winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize - is giving hope to billions. Philanthropist and self-made millionaire Phil Smith and micro credit expert and consultant Eric Thurman provide a riveting narrative that explores how these small loans, arranged by "barefoot bankers," enable impoverished people to start small businesses, support their families, and improve local economies. By paying back their loans instead of simply accepting handouts, men and women around the world are continually giving others the same opportunity to change their futures. The book also examines why traditional charity programs, while providing short-term relief, often perpetuate the problems they are trying to alleviate, and how applying investment principles to philanthropy is the key to reversing poverty permanently. A Billion Bootstraps explains how ordinary people can accelerate the micro credit movement by investing charitable donations in specific programs and then leveraging those contributions so the net cost to lift one person out of poverty is remarkably low. You'll discover how to get more for your money by donating with the mindset of an investor and calculating measurable returns - returns that will change lives and societies forever.
