Koshukai Poster

The 3 day Koshukai will include 72 informative training seminars that will be taught by some of the most respected Master instructors in the world.

Featured Instructor

Grandmaster Shinyu Gushi, 9th Dan, will be teaching Okinawan Kobudo which includes technique and kata instruction in the bo, sai, nunchaku, oar, and gifwa.

He will be also sharing invaluable insights into the "old school" Uechi Ryu system including kata, bunkai, physical conditioning, as well as all aspects of culture and tradition.

Since moving to the United States in 1989 Grandmaster Gushi has dedicated himself to traveling around the world to share his vast wealth of knowledge. He strives to insure that our history is remembered and appreciated. He will leave the sport aspects of kata and kumite to others.

Grandmaster Gushi is an international treasure of Uechi Ryu knowledge who sets the highest example of dedication and discipline. You do not miss the opportunity to learn from him.

Sanchin Gami

Gushi Jars
One of the most famous historical photographs of Uechi Ryu shows Grandmaster Gushi as a young man developing his mastery of Sanchin using clay jars.

These simple training aids have proven to be one of the most effective means to establish the body, mind, and spiritual connection of Sanchin. Even today Grandmaster Gushi's Sanchin Gami demonstration is unlike anyone else in the world.

He continues to inspire everyone who has the privilege of training with him, as he walks the walk of a seasoned warrior.

Grandmaster Gushi is Kaicho of the RyuKoKaku (Dragon, tiger, crane) organization. His depth of knowledge and naturally small stature has enabled him to focus on the "soft" techniques that are often overshadowed by the "hard" elements of Uechi Ryu karate.

He provides clear definition of the influence of the dragon, tiger, and crane forms of Kung Fu that are an integral part of our Uechi Ryu history.

His calm demeanor is balanced by an underlying warrior spirit which  is revealed with remarkable intensity when he demonstrates his level techniques and self defense applications.

The 2009 International Koshukai and Uechi Ryu World Cup will provide you with years of inspiration and will accelerate your training tremendously. Make sure you take advantage of every seminar and opportunity to learn from our Masters and Grandmasters. Your outlook and understanding of traditional Uechi Ryu Karate forever be changed.

News and updates will continue being sent as we near our event. Watch your email on information regarding the Uechi Ryu World Cup too! The World Cup will take place over a two day period following the Koshukai.
