WORK & GOD

-IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHICH IS WHICH

workaholic

A major focus in the current presidential campaign is jobs.  Many of those who go to the polls this November will cast their ballot based on what they believe about which of the two men running for office is better able to follow through on their promise of getting America back to work.

As Americans we have a strange love/hate relationship with our work. On the one hand, we love our work because it keeps us busy, provides us with the means for survival and self-fulfillment, and gives us a measure of status in society. On the other hand, we hate our work because it wears us out emotionally and physically, it never quite seems to provide us with what we hoped we'd get from it, and it increasingly seems to cause us to feel like we're living on the edge of uncertainty and potential ruin.

The Bible has a lot to say about the importance of working hard and doing whatever we are doing as if we are doing it unto the Lord.  Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived also wrote words that warned us about the danger of letting our profession become our obsession:

"Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work."

Ecclesiastes 10:15

This weekend, as we continue our series "God at Work," we'll look at the importance of balancing the things that compete for first place in our lives, and we'll explore some ways that we can make room for "What Matters Most."

Embracing the journey,

Pastor Rick
