WHY WORK?
Whenever the California Lottery Jackpot reaches the 100 million dollar mark, people line up to buy tickets. If you ask them what they would do if they won the big prize, many will tell you that they would buy a new car, pay off their house, and then quit their job and never work another day. That seems like every working man's dream, to quit their job and never work another day.
We've all seen T.V. shows and movies where the plot involved the main character unexpectedly coming into a huge amount of money --and then at the end of the show that character is seen sipping a beverage on the beach in the Caribbean, intending to live out the rest of his days doing the same. We look at that and think, that's exactly what I'd like to do with the rest of my life --nothing!
Work isn't very popular these days --and yet the fact is that if you are an average American (and most of you are way above average) you will spend about 40% of your waking hours working. We would be foolish to believe that God isn't concerned with something that occupies such a great a part of our lives.
This weekend we're beginning a new series called "God at Work." Each week we'll take a look at what His Word has to say about our mission in the marketplace, whether the place where we do most of our work is in the office, out in the field, or in our home.
I hope you can join us.
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
