THERE'S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO MURDER A MAN

murder

Every 22 seconds someone in our country is beaten, stabbed, shot, robbed, raped or killed. The average American citizen has a 1 in 153 chance of being murdered. Intentional killings--murders and suicides--rank fourth among causes of U.S. deaths, right behind heart disease, cancer and accidents. Such a low regard for human life tells us a little bit about how far America has strayed from the principles of the Ten Commandments.

If the sixth commandment, "You shall not murder" was only talking about murdering someone physically then most of us wouldn't worry much about breaking it.  But Jesus broadened the command when He said, "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment" (Matt. 5:21-22).

This weekend as we continue our look at the Ten Commandments we'll look at some of the ways that this sixth commandment Most Christians aren't likely to murder someone physically, but that doesn't mean we can't be murderers in our heart applies to all of us today.

Embracing the journey,

Pastor Rick
