HOW DO I LOVE THEE?

In 1984, pop singer Tina Turner released a hit song, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" The song won a Grammy Award in 1985 and became the title of a 1993 movie about the life of Turner and her escape from an abusive relationship with her husband.

Although the song marked an important milestone in Turner's career, it didn't help the listeners gain any better understanding of what love is. In her song, Turner called love  "a second hand emotion."  Elton John wondered if you can "feel the love tonight." Dolly Parton crooned that she would "always love you."

whats love got to do with it Songs about love are usually not about love at all, but instead about affection, longing, and emotional thrills that last for a little while and then evaporate. When the Bible talks about love it points to the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross and it tells us that He set the example for us to follow as we seek to love others:

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."

(1 John 3:16)

I hope you can join us this Saturday at 5:30PM or Sunday at 9 or 11AM as we welcome back one of our favorite guest speakers, Pastor Joe Basile from Olive Tree Community, who will conclude our "Resolutions" series with a look at "Loving in Word and Deed."

Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
