I RESOLVE...
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
The end of the calendar year is typically the time that people begin to make New Year's Resolutions, declarations of what they want to change about their lives. People begin to plan and to strategize about what they might do differently when the clock strikes twelve. They give themselves motivational pep talks, they make lists and they pray. The most popular resolutions are to lose weight, to exercise more and to stop smoking. Also popular are resolutions that deal with better money management and debt reduction. The following shows how many of these resolutions are maintained as time goes on: - past the first week: 75%
- past 2 weeks: 71%
- after one month: 64%
- after 6 months: 46%
Even though a lot of the people who make new years resolutions fail to follow through on them, research shows that making resolutions is useful. People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions. This weekend as we say goodbye to the old year and ring in the new, we're beginning a new teaching series called "Resolutions." Over the next four weeks we'll be looking at habits which, if implemented, will help us to grow closer to Jesus Christ. Embracing the journey, Pastor Rick
