Our word for today isn't from the Hebrew or Greek, it's Eskimo. When the first Christian missionaries arrived among the Eskimos and began the work of Bible translation, they encountered a problem. They discovered that there was no word in the Eskimo language for forgiveness. In order to tackle this problem, they took a number of Eskimo words and joined them together in order to form one new word --Issu-magi-jou-jun-nai-ner-mik-- and it became the Eskimo word for forgiveness. The individual words are "Choose-not-to-think-about-it-anymore."
When someone has wronged you, Jesus says, "Forgive!" In other words, let it go. Choose not to think about it anymore, but instead leave it in God's hands. It's a choice. We can choose to relive the wrong over and over again, or we can choose to release the one who has wronged us.
This weekend, we're continuing our New Testament Challenge and looking at "The Challenge of Forgiveness." We'll see how forgiveness impacts our relationship with God as well as with others. We'll look at what happens when we fail to forgive and the steps we need to take on the journey toward forgiveness.
The Bible says, "You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive those who offends us. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others."
I hope you can join us this weekend as we explore this important subject.
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
