God values our obedience over and above our sacrifices. He tells us that He would much rather have us follow Him faithfully, even when we don't understand where He is leading, than to receive our offerings of praise, money, religious rituals or acts of service. Yet most of us would rather give God any of those other things than our obedience.
It's not that difficult to follow the Lord when you can see and understand where He is leading. It's what we do during the times when we can't make sense of his direction that really shapes our faith.
This weekend we're continuing our "Character Tour of the Old Testament" with a look at Abraham. The obedience of Abraham is summarized in the New Testament when it says that "It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going" (Hebrews 11:8).
As much as we would like God to phone ahead and provide us with the "what, where, when and how" upfront right at the start of the journey, God does not operate like that. He calls us to trust Him each step along the way and as we walk in obedience our faith continues to grow.
I hope you can join us this weekend as we look at "The Obedience of Abraham" and examine some of the ways in which his life can speak to ours.
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
