The Kitsap Peninsula Offers Miles of Trails & Paths for Nature Lovers of All Ages! 

Bird lovers, beach walkers and lovers of wildlife and nature will find plenty to explore and enjoy on the Kitsap Peninsula. Below are just a few ideas! For more place, visit our "Things To Do" Nature section.  

 

Beach walks such Point No Point in Hansville is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. The lush, wooded trails of the Hansville Greenway is also nearby. A new hiker's paradise is the North Kitsap Heritage Park between Kingston and Indianola with 443 acres of wooded trails.

Bainbridge Island's popular Grand Forest is a refuge to reconnect with nature and Clear Creek Trail weaves through Silverdale on pathways, boardwalks and wetlands. The  Illahee Preserve in Central Kitsap features nearly 700 acres of open space. Trails including many loops, wind through five wooded miles.


In Port Orchard Banner Forest Heritage Park contains 635 acres of walking and equestrian trails. Several miles west of Bremerton Green Mountain State Forest has  

13 miles of trails and recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking & horseback riding.  


In Belfair has Theler Wetlands which covers 135 acres -- a favorite of hikers, birdwatchers and photographers alike.

July is the month for festive celebrations, visiting with friends and family, and enjoying the dog days of summer at a favorite beach or lake. The 4th of July fireworks are just the beginning. You can get a head start at Poulsbo's annual 3rd of July Independence Celebration & Fireworks, held along its historic downtown and waterfront. Visit shops, cafes, and restaurants during the festivities. Entertainment takes placeNW Navy Band Passages all day at the Kvelstad Pavilion. Listen to the ever popular Navy Band Northwest "Passage" before the Fireworks. Extend your stay in Poulsbo at one of the comfortable  hotels such as the Poulsbo Inn or Guesthouse International. 

 

Kingston's 4th of July Celebration is a proud community event with the oldest running parade west of the Mississippi, a 5K Fun Run, Tiny Town, lots of food, drink and concerts at Mike Wallace Marina Park. Fireworks blast off at Apple Tree Cove. There are fun activities planned all weekend long.

the Suquamish Tribe honors their revered and famous leader with a grand celebration held in the waterfront town of Suquamish. The Suquamish Tribe is one of the few tribes in the United States that has had continuous ownership of its ancestral land and is becoming known as the cultural center for Native American Culture. It recently dedicated a new memorial in honor of Chief Seattle, completed a traditional long-house and is building a world-class museum. You can learn more about one of Kitsap Peninsula's most historic and culturally significant communities at the Suquamish Museum.

Take A Ride Today On the Historic Carlisle II, 
An Original 1900's Mosquito Fleet Foot Ferry!

From 1853 to 1940, hundreds of small steam boats used to swarmed the Puget Sound and the Kitsap Peninsula earning them the name the Mosquito Fleet.

Thanks to Kitsap Transit, you can still hop aboard one of these historic boats today. The historic Carlisle II foot ferry sails everyday between the Bremerton and Port Orchard Marinas. You can learn more by visiting the 

Kitsap County Historical Museum in downtown Bremerton. The exhibit includes an original photo of the Carlisle II and examines this fascinating erCarilisle2a. You'll also find more information at the Sidney Museum in Port Orchard. To take a ride, just head to the Bremerton or Port Orchard marinas. The 10 minute ride travels between Bremerton and Port Orchard every 30 minutes. Cyclists welcome!

Wilderness painter, Wayne Foster at the Sidney Art Gallery   

Wayne Foster is an amazing wilderness realist painter. Last year Wayne entered Tacoma's Frank Tobey Jones Senior Art Competition. One of his works was selected to be displayed at the Tacoma Art Museum. A reception at the Sidney Art Gallery will be held on Sunday, July 10th, 1-4pm.

Upstairs from the gallery is the Sidney Art Museum featuring vignettes of early South Kitsap life. Just up the hill is the Log Cabin Museum, housed in a historic 1914 log cabin built on the site.
