Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was great to see so many of you at the 5th Grade Meet and Greet at Back to School Night last evening. We look forward to working with you to make this a memorable school year for your child!

Next week, BMS will be providing instruction and activities to correspond with our theme of Respect Week in order to promote kindness and compassion within our school. Feel free to access the flyer below to get a list of instructional activities that students will be experiencing.

School News

Respect Week (October 1st - 5th)  - The state of NJ has mandated that the first week of October be Respect Week in our schools. Throughout the week, BMS will host a variety of instructional activities for students to participate in centered around the theme of respecting one another. Click here to access the flyer.

BMS Co-Curriculars - Our co-curricular activities are beginning to get under way. Our advisors have set up the schedule of when and where their clubs will meet. A copy of this schedule can be found here or by going to the BMS School Website and clicking on the link for Co-Curriculars.

Forensics - Are you dramatic? Do you like performing in front of group? Then, you should try out BMS's Forensics club! Sign-ups have begun, and you can pick up the permission slip from Ms. MacGorman in the library! The first meeting is Wednesday, October 17th! Click HERE to download the permission slip!


Girls on Track - A fun running club open to 5th & 6th grade girls. Have fun training for a 5K race while making friends and learning about yourselves. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from October 2nd to December 4th. Come see Ms. Malwitz with any questions and to get a permission slip or click here. 


Green Team Science Club - Do you love science and doing labs? Come join the Green Team. You'll get to do a bunch of fun environmental activities outside, cleaning up and planting around our school, and also do cool science labs and experiments inside - the stuff you always wanted to do in science class! Our first meeting is Wednesday, October 10th in Room 221. Come see Ms. Malwitz with any questions and for a permission slip or click here. 


Open Gym:

Attention 5/6th Graders: Are you interested in participating in Open Gym? Open Gym will run the on Tuesdays and Fridays for the month of October.  Please pick up a permission slip from Ms. Both in Room 154 or click here .   Any questions, please contact Ms. Both or Mr. Gilly.   

  

Peer Leadership -

Are you a 7th or 8th grader looking to make an impact on the school community? Are you looking to become a leader among your peers? Consider joining Peer Leadership club! Pick up an application packet from Ms. MacGorman in the library ASAP! Applications are due by Tuesday, October 9th! Click HERE to download the application packet! 
 

Yearbook Club:

Anyone interested in joining the Yearbook club, please see Mrs. Heydt in room 307 for a permission slip.  Our first meeting will be held, October 3rd.       

 

Attention all 8th Grade Parents:

Yearbooks are now on sale!!  If you wish to submit a baby ad for your 8th grade son or daughter, please follow the attached instructions by clicking here.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Heydt at jtrapp@shsd.org.  

 

BMS Writing Lab -

Next week, the BMS Writing Lab will begin for the 2012-2013 school year. The Writing Lab will convene on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, from 2:50-3:50, in the BMS Computer Lab Room 234. Students are welcome to bring current writing assignments to work on, including but not limited to:  open-ended responses, journals, essays, poems, contest entries, and free-writes. 
 

 

  
 
BMS HSA News 

 

Below are upcoming events that are sponsored by the BMS HSA.

 

 

September 29th - 8th Grade Car Wash & Bake Sale. Students in the 8th grade will be washing cars and selling baked goods outside of the Olcott building on the campus of BHS as part of a  fundraiser for their 8th Grade Trip from 8 am - 12 pm. October 11th - 5th & 6th Grade Canteen - Bling it On! It's time for the 5th and 6th Grade Fall Canteen! Thursday October 11th 3pm-4:15. All permission slips must be in by October 10th at 3pm. Click here for flyer and permission slip.

October 12th - Purchase your tickets for this year's Autumn Harvest Fundraiser! Click here to access the order form. 

EIGHTH GRADE WREATH SALE - The holidays will be here before we know it...don't get caught without your greenery!!! The eighth-grade class will kick off its annual wreath sale on Oct. 12. Look for their table in the school lobby at Back to School night Thursday, Sept. 27. Flyers will be available and orders can be placed with cash or check. Please support the eighth-graders as they work to raise money for their class trip! 

 

The HSA's BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Program is up and running for the new school year!  Collection bins are in the students' social studies classrooms, ready for all those General Mills box tops clipped over the summer and throughout the school year. Our first mail-in date for monetary reimbursement is the end of October, so let's stuff those bins! All proceeds earned go directly into HSA programs to benefit the children. In addition, the social studies class collecting the greatest number of  box tops in each half of the year will win an ice cream party!

SHIHA -   Bernardsville-Somerville Middle and High School Ice Hockey teams 1st ANNUAL GOLF OUTING  

 

The BHS-SHS ice hockey team is very excited to formally announce their second fundraiser for the upcoming hockey season.  The 2012 SHIHA Golf Outing will take place at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, NJ on Friday, October 5th starting with a 1:00 PM Shotgun and Dinner/Auction to follow. SHIHA already has some excellent sponsor/player participation and items donated by the NHL, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.  Participants and Sponsors can sign-up/register for the event by visiting  www.golfdigestplanner.com/21484-SomersetHillsHockey  or by contacting Jason Blain at 908-327-3045
