BMS Friday Folder

August 24, 2012

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome back! I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. The first day of school for students is Thursday, September 6th. Our goal is to enrich our student's experiences and affirm that their middle school years are memorable. A new initiative this year is for our faculty and students to participate in a variety of activities that will enhance our school spirit and pride.

As you may already know, Mr. Shawn Kelly has been appointed as the new assistant principal at the middle school. We have been working together over the summer months, preparing our school for opening day, and are eagerly anticipating the return of our students. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Kelly, as well as our new staff members in the Technology, World Language and Guidance Department to include a part-time Student Assistance Counselor. Collectively, we are all looking forward to an exciting school year!

All pertinent information and forms for the beginning of the school year will be included in this week's Friday Folder. It is imperative that you review and sign these documents and return them to your child's first period teacher on Thursday, September 6th, the first day of school. The Friday Folder is our primary communication tool to keep you and your child(ren) informed of important information and upcoming events that will be happening at BMS.

On behalf of the entire BMS staff, we would like to extend a very special welcome to every student. We look forward to working with you and your child and anticipate an outstanding year.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynn Kratz, Principal

Locker Day August 29th

On August 29th, from 8 am - 12 pm, all 5th grade students will have the opportunity to organize their locker prior to the first day of school. Students must be accompanied by a parent. Student locker assignments will be posted the morning of August 29th on the main entrance doors. Any student who is unable to attend on this date and during these specified hours will still be able to set up their locker on the first day of school.

First Day of School Procedures - September 6th

On the first day of school, any 5th grade student who arrives prior to 7:30 A.M. should report to the gym. At 7:30 A.M., students in 5th grade will be ushered to the cafeteria, where they will report each morning. All 5th grade students will remain in the cafeteria where they will be greeted by their first period teachers and escorted to their first period classes. During this time, students will receive their schedules that include locker assignments. 5th grade students do not need to have their schedules when they arrive at school on the first day. During first period, teachers will explain student schedules and allow time for locker setup (for those students who did not participate in locker day). Additional time will also be allotted for students to acclimate themselves to their daily routine

Students in 6th, 7th & 8th Grade

On August 31st, all students will be able to log onto PowerSchool to access their schedules. Students should arrive on the first day of school with the knowledge of their first period class. In the event that you are unable to access PowerSchool at home, lists of first period classes will also be posted on the middle school main entrance doors, inside the gymnasium and in the cafeteria. Please note that official schedules and locker assignments will be distributed to the students on the first day of school by their first period teachers.
