Deadline Next Week (6/27)     PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  NEW OPTION 2 ALTERNATIVES FOR RISING SENIORS         
New Physical Education and Life Skills 2 "Option 2" alternatives are now available to rising seniors (Class of 2013).  Please click here for information about Summer Physical Education and please click here for information regarding changes to Physical Education and Life Skills Option 2 during the school year.  Click here for a copy of the Somerset County Educational Services Commission (SCESC) Physical Education and Life Skills 2 summer school registration form.  ALL forms (and a check for the summer school) must be submitted to the Guidance Department by June 27, 2012.  No late applications will be accepted. Do NOT mail the SCESC form and check to SCESC; return both to guidance. If you have any questions regarding the new alternatives, please contact your guidance counselor.


SHEF has awarded BHS a grant to help subsidize a "Virtual Academy at BHS" - an opportunity for our students to enroll in online courses that we do not offer in the Program of Studies. The administration has decided to open the first spots to the rising seniors. The information packet and application form are on the Guidance webpage on shsd.org - you'll be able to find an overview of the program, the requirements, a list of available courses, and an application. The administration will review applications in early June, so that notifications can be given by the end of the school year when you'd need to register for the online classes. Friday Folders will be sent as necessary over the summer months, typically two to three times before school resumes in September.  If you are a graduate or parent/guardian of a graduate and no longer wish to receive Friday Folders, please click on the "Safe Unsubscribe" at the bottom of this email. 


The vast majority of the several forms that must be printed, filled out, and returned on the FIRST day of school will be posted on the BHS homepage at the end of August.  The majority of forms will NOT be mailed to homes via USPS.  A Friday Folder will be sent in August to alert parents and guardians about the forms that must be returned on the first day of School. Please forward this email and encourage all new students and their parents to click here add themselves to the Friday Folder mailing list.  The Friday Folder is our official means of communication and is a MUST read. 


The 2012 Summer Reading Assignments were distributed earlier this week in English classes. The summer reading list and other summer assignments are available on the Guidance webpage and on the BHS homepage by clicking on the "Students" link at the top of the page. 


The Board of Education is required to provide transportation services to K-8 pupils living more than two miles from school and 9-12 students living more than two and one-half miles from school.  In the event a parent/guardian of a pupil eligible for transportation services wishes to waive transportation services for that school year, a transportation services waiver form should be completed and submitted.  If circumstances change during the school year due to a family or economic hardship, transportation services can be reinstated.  Please click here to visit the transportation department on the district website for the waiver form.


We will be modifying the district's hours of operation during the summer months to conserve energy. The district will be open Monday - Thursday with extended hours and will be closed Friday - Sunday. Summer hours will begin on Monday, June 25. The district will resume regular school year hours on Monday, August 27.
