GRADE REPORTING TIMELINES 
The third marking period ends today.  The grading portal will be closed to students and parents as teachers finalize grades for the marking period.  The schedule will be as follows:
    End of Third Marking Period:                              Friday, March 30th
    Grading portal closed to parents & students:       Friday, March 30th @3:00 PM
    Grading portal re-opened to parents & students:  Tuesday, April 17th @8:30 AM


New     POWERSCHOOL MOBILE APPS NOW AVAILABLE
Two new apps are now available in the Apple iTunes� App Store:

    PowerSchool for Students

Reminder     SAT SUBJECT TESTS
Students in Honors or A-level classes, should take SAT subject tests. Students can take up to 3 subject tests, and should take tests in whichever subjects they feel most comfortable.
 
Students should look into some colleges to see which tests they require. Classes that would be most appropriate include: Chemistry Honors, Physics Honors, Biology Honors, Latin Honors, Spanish Honors, French Honors, US History Honors, World History Honors, Algebra II Honors, PreCalculus/Trigonometry Honors, English III Honors. SAT Subject Tests are administered on June 2, 2012 and students must register by May 8, 2012. Click here for access to practice SAT Subject Tests, for more information, and/or to register online.


Yet another addition to the list!   ATTENTION SENIORS: SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
There are several local scholarships available and we are looking forward to receiving more applications.  "The Keith Hightower Scholarship" has been added to the list this week.  The Hightower Scholarship is for students participating in science or math competitions and/or research during their high school years.  Please also be sure to review the updated list and pay particularly close attention to the Lions Club Scholarships, the Cathy Sutcliff Scholarship, the Peapack-Gladstone Woman's Club Scholarship, the Colin Walsh Scholarship, the Frank Gallo Scholarship, and Kiwanis of Bernardsville Scholarship.  Please click here for the UPDATED scholarship list. Click here for more information regarding the Cathy Sutcliff Memorial Scholarship (award range is $500 - $1000) which is intended for students who plan a university or post-secondary school course of study which includes but is not limited to Horticulture, Flower Design, Landscape Design, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Botany, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Beekeeping or Entomology. COLLEGE VISITS PROCEDURES
A reminder to parents and students regarding college visits:
All students who intend to visit a college and wish to have the absence excused so that it does not count toward loss of credit must follow the procedure outlined in the student handbook. A note from a parent must be submitted to the Principal prior to the college visit. Upon return to school, documentation of the visit, on college letterhead must be submitted to the Principal. Students are permitted a combined maximum of three days during the student's junior/senior years.

New     BERNARDIAN RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE!!
The Bernards High School yearbook, Bernardian, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2012 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 10 celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and creation.  Congratulations to Ms. O' Brien, Ms. Buterbaugh and the entire 2010-11 yearbook staff.  Click here to learn more about this award. 


New     MATH LEAGUE HAS GREAT YEAR!
The BHS New Jersey Math League team competed in a series of six contests this year and placed first in Somerset County and had the 4th highest score in the state, with more than 190 public and private schools competing. Two of our participants, Harry Dempsey and Matt Goldman, were among the top scoring students in the state.  Congratulations to Ms. Falletta and all of the Math League participants!
 

New     ATTENTION SENIORS:  SERVICE HOURS ARE DUE FRIDAY, MAY 4TH
Senior's service hours are due by Friday May 4th!  Hand them in to Ms. Clark in B201 by May 4th.  Seniors, hours are due by May 4th! 


New     MR. BABICKE'S PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENTS & HOMES OF DISTINCTION
This year Mr. Babicke's advanced photo classes were given the opportunity by Mrs. Kathleen Palmer to design the invitation set for the upcoming Homes of Distinction cocktail party. The final invitations chosen were designed by sophomores, Lily Husek and Carissa Levine. New     BHS NAMED 2012 NJ GREEN RIBBON SCHOOL
The New Jersey Department of Education announced that BHS is one of four school buildings in the state to be recognized as a 2012 New Jersey Green Ribbon School.  The Green Ribbon School Program recognizes exemplary achievement and best practices in the areas of environmental impact and energy efficiency, healthy school environments and environmental and sustainability education.  Click here for more information about this honor.


New     DANA GIORDANO FINISHES WINTER SEASON WITH GREAT SUCCESS
Dana Giordano was named the Courier News Girls Track Athlete of the
Year. Dana has completed a fantastic indoor track season! She was the
meet-record champion at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions (for the second
time) and a third place finish at the New Balance Nationals!!


New     TUXEDOS FOR SENIOR PROM

FIFTH ANNUAL INTERGENERATIONAL GOLDEN PROM
On Friday, May 4, BHS Key Club will be sponsoring the Fifth Annual Intergenerational Golden Prom from 6:00pm-9:00pm in the BHS Cafeteria.  Any Senior Citizen Resident from Bernardsville, Bedminster, Far Hills, Peapack and Gladstone is welcome to attend.  Any student interested in volunteering to be part of the fun-filled evening should see Mrs. Connor in BHS Health Office for details.  Click here for the invitation.


Updated     TALENT SHOW CANCELED - REPLACED WITH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
The BHS Talent Show that was scheduled for April 27 has been cancelled due to lack of interest.  The freshmen and sophomore classes are coordinating a Basketball Tournament in place of the Talent Show.  The tournament will take place at 7:00 on 4/27.  See Ms. Ernst or Ms. Drag for more information.


REMINDER TO PARENTS REGARDING STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Please call the Attendance Line at 908-630-3004 by 8:30 am to report your child absent or tardy. Should your child need to be dismissed early or be taken out of school for an appointment, a note must be submitted to the Main Office by 7:45 am. A dismissal pass will be given to the student to avoid interrupting classes. Thank you for your cooperation.


NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY TUTORING
Attention students and parents: Tutoring services are being offered by the National Honor Society. Student tutoring is great way for NHS members to share their knowledge with other students and to perform a valuable service for the school. We want to publicize this program as much as we can so that any student who needs help knows that there are tutoring options in school that they can and should utilize. Parents are encouraged to create accounts on this website (aka SchoolFusion Accounts).  Setting up a SchoolFusion account will provide parents with access to teachers' webpages and allow them to subscribe to automated emails that are sent when those pages are updated.  A student ID number is required to link a parent's/guardian's SchoolFusion account to his/her student; you may contact Ms. Nickell at [email protected] for this number.  Please click here to create your SchoolFusion parent account. 


BHS ADOPT-A-SOLDIER
In honor of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the history department at BHS has adopted a US soldier who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. We will be sending him letters, care packages, etc. For more information click here.

This year's SHEF Chili Cook-Off was a huge success!  The high school students, faculty, staff and administration extend a hearty thank you to all those who came out for a fun evening and supported the Somerset Hills School District's students in the process. A special thank you to all those who devoted countless hours planning this event!
