Greetings!

Well, not too sure what to say for the beginning of October?  Luckily, we are having a nice fall with only a hint that winter is on the way, so still time for stogies on the deck and such.

That lovely wife of mine brought up planning for Christmas and while that bummed me out, I realized I need to start thinking of Cuban cigar gifts for my friends.  I will try and put up some corporate gift ideas, new Christmas Samplers and other specials soon as she may have a point, at least  when you look at the caledar!

Cuban Cigar Reviews

Romeo y Julieta Cazadore

6 3/8  x 43 lonsdale

Review by Cameron M

Romeo y Julieta Cazadore - This cigar is a medium to strong cigar being closer to medium.

The cigar I chose had a dark veiny wrapper a 5/6.

The flavors are big and bold in the cigar with lots of earth and wet leather with a knockout punch of spice.

I paired this with a 15 year old Glenfiddich which worked well.

I wouldn't recommend this cigar for the beginner due to its power and strength. My overall rating for this cigar is 90/100.

CA Magazine's most recent rating was a 89/100 April 2011

Montecristo Petit Edmundo

4 1/3  x 52  petit robusto

Montecristo Petit Edmundo - This is a cigar I don't usually smoke.  I usually gravitate to its bigger brother the Edmundo.

Glad I had the petit Edmundo, as I found  it surprising good and as it turns out, it packs a flavorful punch.

Lots of tea with a hint of vanilla and strong cedar and dried leather all came together to make for a wonderful experience.

I usually choose a darker wrapper for the Montecristo line but this time I had a lighter wrapper a 2/6 and it worked out very well.

I paired this cigar with a 14 year old Balenvie Golden cask, it was truly wonderful.

My overall rating for this cigar is 92/100

Cuban Cigar Review

Montecristo No 4

5 x 42 petit corona

reviewed by D Fraser

Montecristo No. 4 - If the legend is true, this is the largest single selling cigar in the world.

I view this cigar as a true medium 5/10 on the strength scale for Cuban cigars.

Always a dry sort of strong bottom of the tea cup tone when you first light this cigar.  Often that changes to a more traditional mocha flavor with hints of sweet cedar aroma.

Wrapper was a 3/6 and the finish of this cigar was pleasing, as it turned a little toward dark fresh brewed coffee with a sort of nutmeg that lingered on the palette afterwards.

I was drinking a Bushmills 16 yo Irish whiskey that matched well and did not overpower the cigar.

My overall rating for this cigar is 89/100

CA Magazine's most recent rating

was a 87/100 in Aug 2010

Cohiba Pyramide Extra

The Pirmides Extra is a new size, or vitola, for Cuba, measuring about 6 5/16 inches long by 54 ring gauge.

Standard Cuban pirmides (the most famous is the Montecristo No. 2) run slightly thinner and shorter, measuring 6 1/8 inches by 52.

The Cohiba Pirmides Extra was the star of the opening night at February's Habanos Festival. There, the audience was treated to a preview tasting of the smoke.

The cigars come packed with some elements found on Cohiba Behikes, with the

Taino head on the cigar band, some holograms to deter counterfeiters and glorious, stately packaging.

The name "Cohiba" is an old word used by the Tano Indians, the original inhabitants of the island, to describe the rolled tobacco leaves they smoked, which Christopher Columbus saw for the first time in Cuba in 1492. Cohiba is, subsequently considered, the first name for tobacco.

Your Chuckle for today

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers. I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back."

The room is quiet, and no one takes up the Texan's offer. One man even leaves.

Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder. "Is your bet still good?" asks the Irishman.

The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses, drinking them all back-to-back.

The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement. The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?"

The Irishman replies, "Oh... I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first."

BRIAN?

A man walked out to the street and caught a taxi just going by. He got into the taxi, and the cabbie said, "Perfect timing. You're just like Brian!"

Passenger: "Who?"

Cabbie: "Brian Sullivan. He's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happen like that to Brian Sullivan, every single time."

Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."

Cabbie: "Not Brian Sullivan. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy."

Passenger: "Sounds like he was something really special."

Cabbie: "There's more. He had a memory like a computer. He remembered everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse, and the whole street blacks out. But Brian Sullivan, he could do everything right."

Passenger: "Wow. Some guy then."

Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Brian, he never made a mistake, and he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good. He would never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes highly polished too. He was the perfect man! He never made a mistake. No one could ever measure up to Brian Sullivan."

Passenger: "An amazing fellow. How did you meet him?"

Cabbie: "Well, I never actually met Brian. He died. I'm married to his damn widow."
