Cohiba Robusto

Several Cuban robusto size cigars are near the top of my smoking list. Partagas Serie D No 4, Bolivar Royal Corona, Ramon Allone Specially Selected and above all of these fine Cuban cigars is the Cohiba Robusto. It deserves this lofty perch, no doubt about it.
A light 3/6 wrapper had a nice coffee aroma. The first note upon lighting is traditional coffee and cream Cohiba flavor. Light and mild with some fresh cut wood hints and a little vanilla tone. Later the coffee and cream takes over and becomes more pronounced and the cigar strengthens to about a medium to my palette.
When I smoke a Cohiba and it has the traditional Cohiba flavors, the cigar is hard to beat and leaves me knowing I just smoked the finest Robusto Cuba makes.
I would rate this cigar a 94/100 without hesitation.

Hoyo de Monterrey Plama Extra

I have not had a lot of the Hoyo de Monterray Palmas Extras as my tastes leaned more towards the bigger cigars. However lately I've found myself experimenting more with the smaller ones and it seems I have been missing out on some great cigars.
The Palmas Extra had a wonderfully dark wrapper 5/6 which was enticing. I was sipping a Delamain XO Cognac and wanted a cigar that would not take forever but would have the quality to justify enjoying it with a fine Cognac.
Initial impressions upon lighting were cereal, nutty, woody and slightly acidic. Not a problem, when paired with the spirit. Into the second third the acidity fell off, the woodiness increased with leather and cocoa bean on the palate. As the cigar entered the last third, the notes of leather became more pronounced but very smooth and enjoyable.
It turned out to be a nice pairing for the Cognac and a great size.
A strong cigar at 7/10, it rates a score of 90/100 points and would have been higher if not for the acidic introduction.

Juan Lopez Selecion No 2

This was my first Juan Lopez ever smoked and I found mysef quite impressed.
The cigar I chose had a medium shade wrapper a 3/6. This robusto was well constructed and enjoyable to smoke.
I paired this with a Mortlach 15 yr old single malt, and found it a good combination.
When I first lit my cigar I had an immediate sensation of rich coffee cream with subtle notes of cedar and hints of earthiness.
Half way through the cigar I sensed notes of dried floral with a faint undertone of fruitiness.
This is a good regular smoker to be enjoyed any time of the day.
My overall rating is 88/100

At this, the man calls the bartender over. "Say, I must be losing my mind" he tells him. "I keep hearing these voices say nice things and there is not a soul in here but us". "It's the peanuts" explains the bartender, indicating a dish on the bar.
