  St Patrick's Day Celebrations!

During and following the great potato famine of 1846, some 4,000,000 Irish left their country. About 90% of them came to the New World to start a new life, bringing St. Patrick along.

In the U.S., it is primarily a festive day filled with good cheer, parades, the "wearing of the green," shamrocks, and song. We all celebrate the day right along with the Irish, though not with quite the same fervor and tradition!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every year since 1962, the Chicago River has been dyed green for St. Patrick's day.
The actual dye is orange. It turns green when it's churned into the water. The discovery of this phenomenon was made by members of Chicago's
pipefitters union back in 1962, and the union has been dyeing the river for St. Pat's ever since.
The natural green river can be seen to the right, awaiting its transformation into the hypergreen to the left.
In 1962, over 100 pounds of dye were dumped into the river, leaving it green for days. Now, only 40 pounds are dispersed, but because the River was reversed to run backwards away from the lake, even one day later, the entire river for many blocks to the west remains a shamrock-colored fairway.
Cuban Cigar Review
Romeo y Julieta
Coronitas en cedro
petit corona 5 1/8 x 40
reviewed by  D Fraser.
The wrapper was medium in color, perhaps a 3/6.  I removed  the cedar sheath and found the wrapper moist and oily, nice golden tone.
I decided on this cigar late one afternoon while watching the ongoing coverage of the free agent status of Peyton Manning, a player I admire greatly. Not sure where he will end up, but I will likely become a fan of that NFL team.
On first lighting I found the traditional peppery notes of Romeo y Julieta.  Then it showed some strong cedar and a hint of mocha.  A slightly sweet cigar, likely due to the cedar sheath presentation I found it gained in strength and near the end hinted of coffee grounds and burnished leather.
I see this a medium with a strength of 5 of 10.
My overall rating is 89/100.
While not every Cuban can rate a 90 or more, I did find this an enjoyable smoke and considering it's price point, a very good value cigar to keep in your humidor for occasions calling for a 40 minute cigar.
CA Magazines most recent rating was a 92/100 Dec 2009
Cuban Cigar Review
H Upmann
Connoisseur No 1
robusto  4 7/8 x 50
reviewed by Cameron M
I enjoyed this pleasant cigar mid-morning with a glass of ice water.
The silky smooth medium shade wrapper had a slight uneven burn which didn't hinder my enjoyment.
The first half of the cigar I tasted light chocolate with notes of dried hazelnuts.
This is a light to medium cigar I would rate for strength 4/10. In the last half of the cigar the strength and flavors intensified.
My overall rating out of a 100 is 89.
Some
Irish Wisdom
to toast
St Patrick's Day
A bushmills 18 yo and a Montecristo from Cuba pair very well together and would make your toast that wee bit more special!
Work is the curse of the drinking class.
 --Oscar Wilde
May you live to be a hundred years,
With one extra year to repent.
As you slide down the banister of life, May the splinters never point in the wrong direction!
May the wind at your back always be your own.
 Here's to a long life & a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold beer-and another one!
Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening,
And live everyday as if it were your last.
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead
A toast to your coffin.
May it be made of 100 year old oak.
And may we plant the tree together, tomorrow.
How to get to the Pub!
McQuillan walked into a bar and ordered martini after martini, each time removing the olives and placing them in a jar. When the jar was filled with olives and all the drinks consumed, the Irishman started to leave.
"S'cuse me," said a customer, who was puzzled over what McQuillan had done. "What was that all about?"
"Nothing," said the Irishman, "my wife just sent me out for a jar of olives."
Corporate Lesson number one
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.
All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
Moral of the story is:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.
Corporate Lesson number two
A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."
"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.
Paddy on
St Patrick's Day
Paddy had been drinking at his local Dublin pub all day and most of the night celebrating St Patrick's Day. Mick, the bartender says, "You'll not be drinking anymore tonight Paddy!" Paddy replies, "OK Mick, I'll be on my way then."
Paddy spins around on his stool and steps off. He falls flat on his face. "Shoite!" he says and pulls himself up by the stool and dusts himself off. He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face, "Shoite, Shoite!" He looks to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the door and some fresh air he'll be fine.
He belly crawls to the door and shimmies up to the door frame. He sticks his head outside and takes a deep Breath of fresh air, feels much better and takes a step out onto the sidewalk and falls flat on his face. "Bi' Jasus... I'm fockin' focked," he says.
He can see his house just a few doors down, and crawls to the door, hauls himself up the door frame, opens the door and shimmies inside. He takes a look up the stairs and says "No fockin" way". He crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says "I can make it to the bed." He takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face. He says "Fock it" and falls into bed.
The next morning, his wife, Jess, comes into the room carrying a cup of coffee and says, "Get up Paddy. Did you have a wee bit too much to drink last night?". Paddy says, "I did Jess. I was fockin" pissed. But how'd you know?"
"Mick phoned... you left your wheelchair at the pub."
