cuaba cuban cigars

 Cuban CUABA cigars

Every Cuaba is made in the distinctive shape known as double figurado. This was the style that at the end of the 19th Century was all the rage for Habanos.

A century later, in 1996, this rich tradition was revived at the Romeo y Julieta factory where Cuabas are made.

Double figurados are at the pinnacle of the cigar maker's art and for this alone they merit a place in every cigar enthusiast's collection.

Cuaba, like Cohiba, is a Taino Indian word dating back to the time of Columbus. It was the word for a highly combustible bush, which the Indians used to light their "cohibas".

All sizes contain a blend of leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region and are "totalmente a mano, tripa larga" -totally hand made, long filler.

Flavour Ranking: Medium to Full.

Further Information

about this fine Cuban Cigar

 The Cuaba line is often described as earthy flavors, sometimes mushroom qualities are used.  Fresh fig, dates and even the aroma of wet bark have been used as well.

The strength changes as the size increases.

CUTTING TIP:  The tapered foot can sometimes burn to one side and is hard to control.  I find cutting both ends of the figurado to be helpful.  It seems to ensure a proper burn and is far easier to light the cigar.

Cuban Cigar Review

 Ramon Allones

Specially Selected

robusto  4 7/8 x 50

reviewed by Cameron M.

The wrapper was light in colour, perhaps a 2/6.

I enjoyed this as an after dinner cigar, accompanied by few fingers of a 15 year old Glenlivet Whisky.

Subtle notes of tea were accompanied by a mixture of walnuts and dried fruits, making this a well balanced cigar.

I consider this a medium strength cigar with a strength of 6/10.

My overall rating is 92/100.

This was a very enjoyable cigar and should be considered for smoking in the afternoon or evenings after lighter meals.

CA Magazines most recent rating was also a 92/100 Nov 2011

Cuban Cigar Review

Cohiba Esplendido

Churchill 7 x 47

reviewed by Graham S

The Esplendido showed typically good Cohiba construction with a slightly veiny wrapper of 3.5 / 6 golden brown shade.

Initial flavors upon lighting were a definite leather and white pepper spiciness.

These soon mellowed into a softer leather, creaminess with a slight cereal impression which dominated the remainder of the smoke.

The Esplendido would be well suited with a Sauternes desert wine or perhaps even a Bordeaux Cask Scotch.  Something with more subtle flavours and not overpowering.

A very nice cigar to be enjoyed in the afternoon or after a lighter dinner. My overall rating: 88 /100

CA Magazines most recent rating was 91/100 April 2011

 One man's guide
to premium cigars

What a Man needs to know

Premium cigars cost real money. A man can indulge only what he can afford, but if all you can afford is one fine cigar; do that instead of something less. This is one hobby where quality is King.

Here are some terms about cigars that you will hear.  Not the elitist stuff that a cigar snob will spout, just the facts. There are lots more; these are just the main ones.

Hand rolled cigars means full leaves (long filler) is used by a human being (torcedor) with .......

~~~~~~~~~~~~
......."They" say the cigar band should be removed at the start of the cigar, so you are not being pretentious and advertising / bragging about your choice of cigar.  They say experienced cigar aficionados will always take the band off.  What they don't tell you is they are total nobs.  Listen, you spent good money ........
Whores and Hockey Players
A man in a Florida supermarket tries to buy half a head of lettuce. The very young produce assistant tells him that they sell only whole heads of lettuce. The man persists and asks to see the manager.  The boy says he'll ask his manager about it.
Walking into the back room, the boy said to his manager, 'Some ass
wants to buy half a head of lettuce.' As he finished his sentence, he turned to find the man standing right behind him, so he added, 'And this gentleman has kindly offered to buy the other half.'
The manager approved the deal, and the man went on his way.  Later the manager said to the boy, 'I was impressed with the way you got yourself out of that situation earlier. We like people who think on their feet here. Where are you from, son?'
' Canada , sir,' the boy replied.
'Well, why did you leave Canada ?' the manager asked.
The boy said, 'Sir, there's nothing but whores and hockey players up there.'
'Really?' said the manager. 'My wife is from Canada .'
'No kidding?' replied the boy.
'Who'd she play for?
My wife told me to go to the doctors and get some of those tablets that 'help' you get an erecton.
You should have seen her face when
I came back and tossed her some diet pills!
... I'm still looking for a place to live.
  Haircut, Cuban cigar and a Shave
A high ranking General and an old Drill Sergeant were both sitting in a barber shop getting a shave after their haircuts and enjoying a couple of Cuban cigars the Barber had kindly offered them.
As one barber was getting ready to slap some fragrant aftershave on the General, the officer stopped him saying, "Don't put that stuff on me. My wife will smell it and think I've been in a brothel!"
The other Barber finished with the Sergeant but seemed hesitant to apply the aftershave after what he heard.
The Sergeant only smirked with his Cuban cigar still in his mouth and leaned back in his chair, "Go ahead, buddy. My wife doesn't know what the inside of a brothel smells like."
