Greetings!

Cuban cigars are the only cigars we keep in our humidors.  We admit to being a little spoiled because of this, but they are simply the finest cigars in the world.

Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers,

the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don "Pepin" Fernandez, a talented promoter, who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his hey day no less than 20,000 different bands were used in production.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of Romeo y Julieta. Since his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band but it has also served to describe the marque's most famous size measuring 7 inches (178 mm) by 47 ring gauge - the Churchill.

Romeo y Julieta's balanced and aromatic blend of selected leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region make it the classic medium bodied Habano. Romeo y Julieta Cuban cigars are a unique line for Cuba.  Within the brand are many different cuban cigar experiences.  The standard description of Romeo would be about a medium, slightly peppery with a woody finish.  Then there are the exceptions.  The Cedros Deluxe Romeos offer much more sweetness, spice and of course the cedar sheath they arrive in imparts a deep wood note to the cigar.  The infamous Churchill, Short Churchill and Wide Churchill offer varying degrees of coffee with a hint of cream in it, with there own version of slight sweetness, as if suger was added to that coffee.  The Churchill is the true iconic cigar in this brand, yet there are many other hidden treasures to be found, such as the Romeo Belicoso, an outstanding belicoso that again suprises the smoker with spice, slight citrus and a little soft black coffee note in the finish.

Tips For a Happy Marriage, By Red Skelton

1. Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, then comes good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.

2. We also sleep in separate beds, hers is in Ontario and mine is in Tucson.

3. I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.

4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

6. Statistically, 100% of all divorces start with marriage.

7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was, she told me, "In the lake."

8. She got a mudpack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.

9. She ran after the garbage truck yelling, "Am I too late for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in."

10. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.

11. I married Miss Right, I just didn't know her first name was Always.

Who Wears the Pants in This Family?

Mike was going to be married to Karen, so his father sat him down for a little fireside chat. He says, "Mike, let me tell you something. On my wedding night in our honeymoon suite, I took off my pants and handed them to your mother and said, "Here Try these on."

She did and said, "These are too big. I can't wear them." I replied, "Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and I always will. Ever since that night we have never had any problems."

"Hmmm," says Mike. He thinks that might be a good thing to try. On his honeymoon, Mike takes off his pants and says to Karen, "Here Try these on."

She does and says, "These are too large. They don't fit me." Mike says, "Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and I always will. I don't want you to ever forget that."

Then Karen takes off her pants and hands them to Mike and says, "Here You try on mine." He does and says, "I can't get into your pants." Karen says, "Exactly. And if you don't change your smart-ass attitude, you never will."

Hard to Please

Soon after my wife and I met, she mentioned how she really wished that she could afford a riding lawnmower. She was a single gal that worked all day and was often tired in the evening when she got home from work.

So, being the handy sort of guy that I was, I made her a riding lawnmower (see below for photo of lawnmower.)

I guess I thought she would squeal with delight and give me a big hug.

To this day I have never been able to understand why women are so hard to please.

Valentines Day thoughts...
Ok, I know Valentines Day is a made up holiday for greeting card companies to feed on the public sentiment for love and romance. Rant and rave about the commercial aspect all you want, then hunker down and realize there are women out there that truly see this one day as a chance for the man they love to show his feelings.

Remember all the times you grunted when asked about drapery fabric, paint swatches, matching love seats and counter top choices, well this is the one time a grunt will NOT do!
If there is a hint that Valentine's Day matters, even a slight chance, then be there for her this one day and don't screw it up.

This may not require much on your part.  Ironically, the less romantic, caring, and attentive you are the rest of the year is directly related to the effort you must put into this one gesture on Valentine's Day.

It is not the present, it is the presentation.  A small thoughtful gift given over a dinner you prepared just for her goes a long way.  A diamond slid across the table to her at McDonalds not so much.
A nice dinner out, a home cooked meal, a walk in the park, a bag of heart candies left by her purse in the morning, all these are acceptable gestures.

Flowers are cliche, but still wanted and enjoyed.  A bottle of wine, a fireplace and sincerity make a single rose seem like a vacation in Paris (almost) so unless you can afford the Paris trip, plan something around your gesture or gift to enhance the presentation of it.

Most importantly, take this one day to let her know what she really means to you.  Be honest and open and speak the words you dread having to say out loud.  We all know she should "already know" how you feel, but on this one day, just say it!
If she does little things for you that you take for granted, today is the day to let her know you noticed.
If she does more than her fair share of the house cleaning, cooking and so on (most do, who are we kidding).... today you will make her understand how very much you appreciate all that she does.
A sincere and heartfelt small conversation is a massive gift in her mind, so make it count.

Remember, it is Valentines Day for you as well, and you may just get the gift of Cuban cigars or perhaps you have them and she will give you the time to enjoy one without interruption or bother.  Maybe a fine dinner will be followed by her suggesting you partake in your favorite whisky and a fine Cuban cigar and then....well who knows....

PS: To all the women out there.  Cuban cigars are an expensive hobby.  The finest of anything in life costs a bit, I bet that may include you...sometimes...
So when you call about a gift of Cuban cigars for him, please stop saying "Holy S*@#t, he pays how much for those Cuban cigars?" in an angry tone.  Remember I wrote this article, maybe not well, but with great intent for your happiness.  Thanks & Happy

One man's guide to premium cigars

What a Man needs to know

Premium cigars cost real money. A man can indulge only what he can afford, but if all you can afford is one fine cigar; do that instead of something less. This is one hobby where quality is King.

Here are some terms about cigars that you will hear.  Not the elitist stuff that a cigar snob will spout, just the facts. There are lots more; these are just the main ones.

Hand rolled cigars means full leaves (long filler) is used by a human being (torcedor) with .......

......."They" say the cigar band should be removed at the start of the cigar, so you are not being pretentious and advertising / bragging about your choice of cigar.  They say experienced cigar aficionados will always take the band off.  What they don't tell you is they are total nobs.  Listen, you spent good money ........
