4 Points for Speaking and Writing:
1. Do not add any additional sites for more housing.
29 acres and 650 new units in the central part of our community is enough.
2. Do not develop San Marcos Growers (next to Vons) under any circumstances! This property is in the heart of our community. Developing it would drastically and negatively impact the community. Besides being home to a first rate wholesale nursery business, there is an active Ag operation that supplies food to the farm stand on Hollister Ave. and to Lane Farms on Walnut Ave. These stands serve up to 200 people per day in their peak season.
Note: This property is not currently being recommended for development,
BUT developers and housing advocates are trying to get the Supervisors to include it in the Plan. Tell them NO!
3. Please re-insert the agricultural land protection language back into the Plan
in Section LUA-1.6: Urban Agricultural Land Use Conversion. The County recently removed it. We want it added back in because it maintains important protective criteria to keep Ag land from easily being converted to residential or commercial use.
4. Let Supervisor Wolf know that you would like her to support the majority voice of the community regarding development and preservation of valuable agricultural land and open space.
A little more information ...
Many of us have fought hard to limit development to what is reasonable for our community. 650 new units are now proposed for the central Hollister/Calle Real corridor. This is all within a 0.8 square mile area!
This is already far more growth than we think our area can reasonably absorb/sustain, and yet there are developers and special interest groups
who want to put even more housing into our Community Plan. Adding more housing means cementing over rich agricultural land and destroying pleasurable open space. We must say NO to any more high density rezoning than what is currently being proposed!
650 units is a significant addition to our community which already has the largest amount of affordable housing, per capita, in the County.
