Learn how to can! Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Food Preserver Sandra Varno will give up to date information and instruction on water bath canning. Participants will make a delicious salsa and see the basics of canning crushed tomatoes. Bonus: each participant will also go home with a copy of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. October 9, $10 per person.

Wild Care, Cape Cod and Van Rensselaer's Restaurant & Raw Bar are hosting a Vegan Harvest Dinner, Monday, October 22 at 6:30 pm. This dinner will feature fresh produce from Tim Friary's Cape Cod Organic Farm, as well as other local farms across the Cape. Local wine selections from Truro Vineyards will accompany each course. All proceeds will benefit the animals at Wild Care. Tickets are $100 - please visit www.wildcarecapecod.org for more information.

 

Come on down to Cape Abilities Farm on Route 6A for pumpkins, winter squash, apples and more. Our award-winning tomatoes are still going strong, and will be available through Halloween! If you haven't met our new Farm Manager, James Barnes, please stop in and say hello. We'll be open for the Fall Harvest celebration, with tastings and tours of our greenhouses.

 

In The Weeds Flowerfarm still has gorgeous fall flower bouquets, antique hydrangeas, breathtaking dahlias, lotsa gourds and fall wreaths.

 

This month Coonamessett Farm at 277 Hatchville Rd., Falmouth, is staying open 9 to 5 daily, offering breakfast, lunch, and Jamaican dishes. Take a hayride around its 20-acre farm any weekend in October; navigate its blueberry bush maze anytime from October 20 through Halloween. At Pumpkin Decorating Days, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 27 and 28, children can bring their pumpkins to the greenhouse to paint and decorate them.

Woo's Worms provides vegetable and perennial plants specializing in tomatoes of over 70 varieties. Worm products including composting worms, worm castings, fertilizer, and worm castings liquid tea fertilizer. Contact 508-240-1014 or [email protected] for an appointment.

Borderbay Junction Farm has lamb available at the end of October and November.

Cape Cod Organic Farm is now accepting members for the fall CSA which will run 10/24-11/20. The cost will be $200 for the 5 weeks. Deposits must be received by October 19. Items included will be: Pumpkins (great for cooking AND decoration)  Winter Squash  Potatoes AND Fingerling Potatoes  Brussel Sprouts  Cabbage  Beets  Turnips  Turnip Greens  Onions  Sweet Potatoes  Kale  Arugula  Fresh Eggs. It is also possible that shares could include Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, Summer Squash, and Cucumbers (depending on how long the summer crops hold out). Green Harvest Organic Farmers' Market & Crafts Fair has MOVED to SUNDAYS from Noon-4 PM, in the Main Entrance parking lot of Barnstable County Fairgrounds on Route 151 at the Falmouth/Mashpee line. Look for the tents! Featuring fresh organic greens, veggies & fruits, wildcrafted local berry jams & jellies, fruit & herb butters, pickled veggies, organic cranberries, local raw honey, free-range chicken eggs, grass-fed meats, organic soups & sandwiches, organic breads & baked goodies including vegan & gluten free: muffins, scones, cupcakes & cookies, bagged & brewed coffees, granola snacks. Local, handcrafted wares such as soaps with locally picked organic botanicals, lip balm, fragrances, Citronella lotion, skin nourishing body butters, organic herbal skin & haircare, jewelry of many types, fused glass arts, metal arts & ornaments & wampum, soy candles, handpainted decor. Green and solar energy solutions providers. We always have fun! Bring the doggies! As always, if the weather is inclement, we will be in The Sheep Barn (when cold, in the Adult Exhibit Hall). Occasional live entertainment.
