It's springtime on Cape Cod and here at Buy Fresh Buy Local we're excited to announce our first annual Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod Spring Fling member tour on June 24. The Spring Fling extends across all of Barnstable County with various members offering fun, local food-focused activities. This is sure to be a fun-filled day and we are encouraging folks to get outside, celebrate the season and support Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod members on Sunday, June 24. Keep your eyes out for more details soon!

Miss Scarlett's is now open for the season Tuesday through Sunday 10:00-4:00pm.  With livestock and poultry exhibits, educational tours on Sundays, and on June 24th from 10:00-2:00pm we will be conducting "behind the scene" tours of our Poultry Processing Facility, Turkey Management areas, broiler chicken areas, and our pastured hog operation.  Miss Scarlett's will be conducting a question and answer session of our extremely diverse and sustainable family farm. All participants will receive free samples of produce, when you mention Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod.

Cape Abilities' unique farm stand is in full swing, open daily on Route 6A in Dennis. We picked the first of our tomatoes Memorial Day weekend and expect them to be more plentiful by mid-month. Our butterhead lettuce is fresh and tasty, and we have lots of fresh herbs, flowers and more. Our Farm to Table shop in Chatham also has Cape Abilities Farm produce and all the other great products from our farm stand, including jams and jellies, honey, oils and vinegars. We've also got yummy Centerville Pie Co. pies and cookies! Cape Abilities Farm employs people with disabilities, as part of Cape Abilities, a nonprofit organization that provides services for people with disabilities. June Events at Coonamessett Farm. Sun. June 17, 11 AM - 3 PM Father's Day Barbecue and Brunch under the pavilion overlooking the fields at Coonamessett Farm 277 Hatchville Rd., E. Falmouth. Dad's Brunch includes a big pot full of productive plants the kids can decorate. Wed. June 20, 5 PM - 8 PM First Wednesday Night Authentic Jamaican Grill and Buffet of the Season at Coonamessett Farm, with steel drum music.  Fri. June 29, 5 PM - 8 PM First Friday Farm Dinner Buffet and Grill of the Season at Coonamessett Farm includes local salads, chef's pizza, quiche, savory vegetarian entrees and vegetable sides, plus grilled meats, and live music -- all under the pavilion overlooking the fields.  Brunch and Buffet tickets include access to Farm gardens and animals. More at Coonamessettfarm.com. The cafe is open to serve breakfast and lunch daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the summer, featuring paninis, frittatas, bagels, farm salads, soups and more. Green Harvest Organic Market begins the 2012 season Tuesday, June 5th with organic goods such as fresh produce, pickles, wildcrafted local berry jams & jellies, free-range chicken eggs, antibiotic-free cheeses & grass fed beef, handcrafted soaps using local botanicals, plants & herbs, soups & sandwiches, gluten-free smoked fish & fish cakes, pies & tarts (starting July), and organic breads coming soon, too! You will be entertained while shopping or snacking by singer/songwriter/guitarist Amber Crowley or local favorite jazz great Pat Ryan. We always have fun! Bring the doggies! The Mid-Cape Farmers' Market new location is on the lawn of the First Baptist Church, at the corner of High School Road, next to Kandy Korner. Locally grown vegetables, fruit, eggs, flowers and seedlings; locally produced cheese, sea salt, smoked fish, honey, baked goods, bread, jams, and soaps will be available this year along with grass fed beef, pork, lamb and poultry.The Mid-Cape Farmers Market will be sponsored again this year by Emerald Physicians, and will be accepting WIC and Senior Coupons through the Massachusetts Agricultural Department program.   

 

Brooks Academy Museum will once again be the site for the popular Harwich Farmers' Market reopening for the 2012 season on Thursday afternoons, June 14 through October 11, from 3-6 p.m. Locally-grown produce will feature seasonal fruits and vegetables, herbs, baked goods and other items at the weekly event, sponsored by the Harwich Agricultural Commission and the Harwich Historical Society. Brooks Academy Museum is located at 80 Parallel Street in Harwich Center, at the corner of Sisson Road.  Parking is available at the museum and across the street at the Harwich Junior Theater Arts Center.   The market has been supported by funds from Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and the Cape & Islands Farm Bureau. Shoppers will also be able to explore Brooks Academy Museum, which will be open until 6 p.m on Thursdays. and offer discounted admission during market hours.  Exhibits include "So Sabi:  Celebrating Cape Verdean Culture " along with maritime, railroad, and cranberry displays.For more information, please call (508) 432-8089 or visit the website at  www.harwichhistoricalsociety.org.
