What's Fresh

From Land...

The easiest way to find out what's in season locally is to use the Cape Cod Harvest calendar for info on veggies, fruits, herbs and sweeteners.  When you click on one of the products on the left you'll get a list of farms that have it!

From Sea...

Take a look at our   Fish Season-by-Season chart to learn more about what's available when!

Organic Gardening Club starting at Maple Hill Farm

Maple Hill Farm, 31 Main St. Cotuit, is starting an organic gardening club for people looking for a place to garden. The land is about 2500 sq. ft. of very good quality soil as it was once a small cow pasture and has been organically farmed in the past. The topsoil is about 18" deep. I am looking for a person with a tractor to harrow it. The land has been fallow for about ten years. My idea is to try and find folks who care about the quality of their food source and are willing to work as a group. Each person or family will have designated area of land to grow whatever they want. Please call Charles Sheehan at 508-246-1632 for details.

Seawind Meadows in Dennis is now accepting quarter and half side orders of grass fed highland beef (deposit required).  As producers under the Quality Highland Beef Program, the beef is handled and raised humanly, is of high quality with no added hormones, no anabolic steroids or sub therapeutic feed antibiotics.   All beef is processed by a  USDA facility.  You also may purchase by the individual cut at the Harwich Farmers Market (Thursdays from mid June - October) or contact the farm directly at lmmpc@verizon.net or 508 776-7150.

Bluefish Bed & Breakfast is open for our 8th season and expect to have more of our own produce than previous years, some being grown right here at the B&B and the rest at the Harwich Community garden.

Cape Abilities Farm on Route 6A in Dennis will open for the season on Tuesday, May 1, with a huge selection of hanging baskets, potted plants and flats. You'll also find lots of fresh produce and a wide selection of local products. The first of this year's tomatoes will be ready in a couple of weeks! The farm will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Satucket Farm will be opening for another season, May 24th and we are so excited. Cy and I (Anita)  are looking forward to seeing our old friends and making future ones. We will continue to have all your favorites and some new offerings. Please, stop by and say "Hello".

The Cape Cod Winery is opening for the season on Saturday May 5th for winetasting and wine sales.  We will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11-4 through June and then Wednesday to Sunday in July and August. Sample six wines for $5 and take a souvenir wine glass home.

There is still time to sign up for the Cape Cod Fish Share. Spring fish share pick ups now scheduled for Tuesday May 8th. Between the weather and new fishing year regulations, the boats have not been able to go out. The boats are on deck and ready to go; they plan to catch the evening tides on Sunday and will fish for haddock and squid. Visit www.capecodfishshare.com for more details!
