Annika Fjelstad, TCGIS Directo
Dear Families,

The hardworking Amity Committee is starting the process of recruiting both interns and host families for next fall. At the current time we have capped the number of interns we can bring because of the unknown factor of how many host families might be available. TCGIS has a strong tradition of having an intern in every class. It would be sad to break with this tradition. We need commitments about hosting NOW before we can confidently recruit an intern for each class next year. Please contact adavis@tcgis.org if you may be interested.

Maskenball online auction opened this week--click here to start your bidding! There are many opportunities to connect with other families as well as staff in the events portion of the auction. The money raised is crucial to maintaining the quality of programming we have come to expect. Thanks for shopping the auction as well as considering buying a ticket for the grand event on February 4th if you are able. More information is included below

We're grateful for our teachers' participation and leadership in working to prevent bullying. If your child is experiencing bullying, please make sure that a teacher is notified. Please don't hesitate to follow through by contacting me personally. We are working together to ensure a safe space for everybody.

Thank you for all you do for our school,

Please plan for your child to arrive promptly according to their grade level and other group participation. Blumenkranz and other musical groups may be performing at a time different from their grade level.

Schedule:

5:45 - Kids arrive for first performance: Kindergarten, First grade, Junior Blumenkranz and TCGIS Consort

6:00 - First performance begins: Kindergarten, First grade, Junior Blumenkranz and TCGIS Consort

Need a Babysitter for Maskenball?
Get a babysitter and help support the 8th grade capstone trip to Germany

Still looking for a babysitter for Maskenball? There are three sets of 7th graders available to watch your kids! Two 7th graders will come to your house to babysit up to 6 children for the evening of Maskenball--Saturday, February 4th (6:30 pm - 12:30 am or earlier). The fee is $10-$15 an hour (depending on the number of kids) and 100% will go to support the 8th grade capstone trip to Germany* next year! Even better, you don't even have to pick them up or drop them off--the 7th grade parents will take care of transporting them to your house.

Please contact Nancy Mulholland at 651-639-8726 or mulho009@umn.edu to arrange for sitters on a first come, first serve basis. Nancy will place sitters in geographic areas--as far as first-ring suburbs only please.

*We plan for our students to have a capstone experience of traveling to Germany as a class during their 8th grade year. We will start building a scholarship fund to be used from year to year to ensure that no student will have financial barriers to participating. Donations ensure that classes can travel as a community to use their German in authentic contexts.
Introducing the Schülerrat
TCGIS Student Council

Der Schülerrat möchte sich vorstellen:
Student Council

Nele Roth, Konrad Bostrom, Einar Crego, Abby Meyer, Olivia Bruhn, and Till Konczak

Dear parents, teachers and students,

We, the Schülerrat (Student Council) of TCGIS, would like to introduce ourselves. Newly founded this school year, part of our work at school will be to try to improve the everyday routine, to be a voice for the students, and to help students with any issues or problems. Additionally, we want to help improve the communication of all people who are involved with the school.

The Schülerrat consists of the elected class representatives from grades 5-8. Every member has the same rights. There are several entities: Speaker, Organizing-Manager, Communication-Manager, Secretary and the respective juniors.

Thank you for supporting our school,

Der Schüllerrat

Survey for Bachelor's Thesis
Request from a former Amity Intern

Dear Parents,

My name is Tara Rensch and I was an Amity intern at TCGIS (in Scot Stephenson's class) from January to June 2011. At the moment, I'm writing my Bachelor's thesis at the University of Mainz on the cultural dimensions of immersion education and I am conducting an opinion survey regarding this topic. It would be a great help for me if you, the TCGIS parents, took a minute to answer some questions. The survey is anonymous and takes only 5 minutes. Please click here if you would like to take the survey.

Note: This is not an official school survey. This is a survey from a former Amity and is not endorsed by TCGIS.

Many thanks to the great competition which all 28 middle school participants provided - we had a really close Geography Bee! Martin now moves on to the second level of competiton, which is a written exam, for the chance to compete against other students in the Minnesota state competition.

Summer Kinderclub 2012
Looking ahead to summer day care

As many of you are starting to think ahead of the beautiful summer months to come, the question of uninterrupted care for your children pops up! Kinderclub offers a 10 week full-day program during the hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, that starts on June 11th, 2012 and ends on August 17th. Each week will incorporate different child-friendly activities in a German immersion setting full of summer fun! Families can chose from many different payment options, full- or part-time, occasional drop-in days or weeks, and additional German Language Camps.

Note: We do not offer Summer Kinderclub during the last week of Summer Break (Aug. 20-24) due to set-up and take-down of the classroom, materials and toys and the move from the GAI to TCGIS. Registration for the new school year and "Open House at the TCGIS" will also be facilitated that week.

Please click below for necessary forms and documents:
-Frequently Asked Questions for families that are new to the Kinderclub program

-Kinderclub enrollment form for new families
-Summer registration form

If your child has been registered with Kinderclub in the past, no additional registration fee is required. If your child is new to the Kinderclub program, a $25/child registration fee is required ($15/sibling).

Please e-mail Babett Larimer at blarimer@gai-mn.org with any questions you might have.
