Pie in the Sky's Dog Bowl and Bike Pump |
Greetings!
So, the weather:
There certainly is a lot of it lately, and it seems to be THE topic of conversation almost every day.
For the most part, it's been beyond spectacular in this neck of the woods. I am out every day, either on my bike or on my feet - looking at the sun sparkling off the water, listening to the birds, inhaling the sweet air.
The shore route to Woods Hole is my personal bike path. I go along Falmouth Heights Beach, around the harbor, beside Surf Drive Beach, and then pick up the real bike path at Oyster Pond. I stop for a scrumptious breakfast at Pie in the Sky. You can read on TripAdvisor how great the food is, but I like the people-watching as much as the food.
Woods Hole is first and foremost an international scientific community, so there are lots of Ph.Ds and their families from all over the world also having breakfast at Pie in the Sky. In addition, during the week of the Woods Hole Film Festival (this year July 30 to Aug. 6; this is really a well-curated film festival and every film is worth seeing), filmmakers, directors, producers, and actors are in town and also eating at Pie in the Sky. Lastly, the ferry to the vaunted Vineyard comes and goes from Woods Hole, so again, the travelers to the Vineyard are provisioning at Pie in the Sky. The variety of people is fascinating!
If you'd like to sample Woods Hole for longer than a cup of coffee, the Woods Hole Inn is smack-dab in the middle of the village. Beth Colt, the new owner, has brought West Coast vibes and taste to this village landmark. Chowing down on a lobster taco at Quick's Hole (the inn's restaurant) while you're waiting for the ferry or a film is the quintessential Woods Hole experience. |

Summer Breezes
Click on the image or address link below for more information about each home, or look for other homes on the Property Search of my website.
The homes I'm highlighting this week epitomize the Cape Cod beach house. Here they are:
| |
Living Like
Gatsby |
If the ease of a condo is your desire, and you want to walk to the beach and Main Street, 25 Pondlet Place, Unit 3 is for you. One of just four units in a converted estate, it's charming, the grounds are gorgeous, and it will be a hassle-free home. Reasonably priced at $439,900.
| |
In the Heart of the Village |
Another great condo is 606 West Falmouth Highway, Unit 5. This is in the heart of West Falmouth Village; you can use the West Falmouth Market as your summer kitchen, bike easily to either Chappy Beach or Old Silver Beach, or take a longer ride to Woods Hole. The bike path is literally out your back door. With an asking price of only $349,000, this is an accessible way of owning a home in Falmouth.
| |
Private Beach |
If the turquoise water and soft white sand of the west side beaches are what you dream of, then take a look at 29 Nemasket Road in West Falmouth. Just steps from an unbelievably beautiful private beach, this is actually a fair price at $749,000.
If your dream includes a boat, here are a couple of homes with their own docks:
Lower Davisville is historic and charming. 354 Davisville Road is 6/10 of a mile to beautiful Menauhant Beach, and a great opportunity at $335,000 for someone who's handy with a paintbrush.
| |
Marvelous Maravista |
63 Mayflower Street in marvelous Maravista is only one house from Great Pond and has water views. With 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, and almost 2,000 sq.ft., this is a solid offering at $477,000. |
Architecturally Distinguished
The next two homes are wonderful. I have a personal connection to each.
|

| |
4,500 Superlative Square Feet |
17 Quail Hollow Road, asking $875,000, was designed and owned by my friend Susan White. It has been featured in both "Country Home" and "Cape Cod Home". The exterior is farmhouse; the interior is fabulous! With a beautiful Gunite pool, a path to Wing Pond for kayaking, and the bike path at the end of the street, this is another on my list of top 10 Falmouth homes. See what you think!
 | |
Woods Hole Gem | 82 Harbor Hill Road in Woods Hole, with an asking price of $1.5 million, was designed by "Fog" Warner for his dad. (Ask Chris how he got his nickname.) The setting and the house are the essence of Woods Hole informality and grace. A hop, skip, and jump to Stoney Beach and the village, but with good privacy, this is a home with beautiful detail and great comfort. Another one-of-a-kind property! |
| |
Your Basic Starter Home |
Here's a house you could actually buy and live in for under $200K! At $175,000, 2 Trickett Street is in a nice neighborhood in North Falmouth, has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, 909 sq.ft., and on a lot of 11,271 sq.ft. The house needs some work, but the septic was installed in 2005, and with an asking price under the assessment of $242,200, it should sell quickly.
| |
Cape Cod Cottage Charm |
Last but hardly least is a cottage straight from the pages of Cottage Living. 340 Boxberry Hill Road, asking $224,000, is a 2-bedroom, 1-bath dollhouse with almost an acre and a finished walk-out basement. There is a path through conservation land to the crystal-clear water and sandy beach of Coonamessett Pond. You wouldn't believe you're on Cape Cod! |
