Aloha Pet Ohana,
The holiday season is upon us with Thanksgiving just around the corner! During this time of giving thanks, we want to send out a heartfelt appreciation to all of our supporters and volunteers. Without you, hundreds of pets, homeless dogs and feral cats would go without food, proper shelter and medical care; on their behalf and ours, mahalo nui loa.
This October we held our annual Poi Dogs, Popoki & the 19th Puka charity golf tournament at the beautiful Hoakalei Country Club where we raised $22,000 for PDP! Many thanks to our golf teams, generous sponsors and honorary co-chairs Congresswoman-elect Colleen Hanabusa and John Radcliffe for all their kokua and support of Hawaii's pets. Not only did our golfers win amazing prices such as a 42" flat panel TV, but we also had a hole-in-one! Congratulations to Ralph Kaui for sinking one in!
We're also excited to report that earlier this month, PDP learned that we are one of 32 recipients of the Leeward Coast Community Benefits Program. PDP will receive a $35,000 grant from the City and County of Honolulu, which will help to provide necessary food, shelter and sterilization surgeries to pets in the Leeward Coast communities. Mahalo to Mayor Peter Carlisle and the City for the opportunity to continue to provide for Leeward Coast families and their pets.
With your continued support, pet owners not only will be better able to care for their animals, but they will then be able to offer more adoptable places for future pets. Creating pet-friendly places and spaces ensures that animals can be adopted into those homes and live long, healthy and safe lives.
You can help continue to spread our mission by donating your time, materials or much needed funds. Visit the "Quicklinks" section of this newsletter to find more on how you can help or donate directly to PDP.
Let us all take a moment to reflect on the things we are most thankful for and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, friends and happy pets!

Become a PDP Foster!
PDP is always in need of a warm, loving and temporary homes for many of the rescues we come across. Becoming a pet foster is not only a wonderful opportunity to provide a nurturing and healthy environment for pets in need, but also aids in a pet's development with people and helps to prepare them for a forever home. E-mail alicia@poidogsandpopoki.org for more information to find out how you can help!

Mahalo to our PDP Sponsors!
This month we'd like to recognize Monsanto for their generous Poi Dog sponsorship of $2,000. Their sponsorship helps to subsidize the cost of building a fence, shelter and punee bed. In addition, one dog can be provided with a health check, flea/tick and heartworm medication, vaccinations, dental check, microchip and sterilization surgery. Not only has Monsanto been a great supporter of PDP, but Fred Perlak, its Vice President of Research & Business Operations is also a PDP board member! In loving memory of Fred's faithful dog, Lucky (pictured below), we want to thank Monsanto for their continued support!

PDP Pet Updates
From small crates to big kennels
PDP recently built four kennels for new rescues of a family in Nanakuli. Living next to the beach, this merciful family took in a number of stray dogs, but properly housing all of them proved to be a struggle as the dogs were kept in cramped quarters, though they had a large yard. In one day, PDP was able to provide the roominess and comfort of larger 9x17 kennels to house the dogs, a huge step up from the crates they were previously kept in. It's through the generosity of supporters like you that enables PDP to continue providing adequate shelter for Hawaii's pets.

PDP volunteer, Michelle, shares the joy of new, roomy kennels with one of the rescues.
"Homes for the Holidays"
In an effort to place as many felines as possible in loving, caring homes over the holidays, Joey's Feline Friends is waiving adoption fees of any cat 3 years old or older in exchange for a 10 lb. bag of food or more. This donation of food will help to feed the many homeless cats around the island.
In additon, from December 1st through the holidays, JFF will be offering a special adoption for all other cats, with a adopt-two-cats-for-one bonus.
All cats are sterilized and microchipped. Vaccinations are available and included in the one-time adoption fee of $70. Contact JFF through its Web site for more information.
