Mt St Helena Long Day Hike and Ritual Co-leaders: Katherine Glasa and Daniel Foor
Sat, February 4, 9:00am - 5:30pm
Robert Louis Stevenson State Park
Mountains are places of strong magic and medicine, and Mt St Helena is no exception. The second tallest peak in the Bay Area, springs bubbling up from this sometimes snow-covered mountain feed the Sacramento via Putah Creek, the Bay via the Napa River, and the Pacific via the Russian River. Teeming with life, St Helena is home to Peregrine Falcon, Bobcat, Mountain Kingsnake, Nightjar, Pileated Woodpecker, and several species of Bat.
On this long winter hike we'll head out to one of the natural shrines consecrated in recent years near Table Rock. There we'll make offerings and heartfelt ritual to honor the elements and local spirits of place (inc. human ancestors). The trek will be about 5-6 miles total with moderate elevation change (almost entirely on established trails, some rocky/uneven terrain). We'll still gather in snow or light rain and reschedule for heavy rain or extreme weather. Good physical condition and personal health on the day of the hike is a must; please respect your limits!
We will meet at 9am sharp at the only parking lot of Robert Louis Stevenson State Park ( directions and weather) and be back to the cars by 5:30pm or maybe a bit earlier. Carpooling is encouraged. Please bring layers for warmth, plenty of food and drink for the day for yourself, any necessary medicines, good walking shoes, and simple natural offerings to convey your respect to the locals. Everyone on the hike is also welcome to join us for a community dinner at a restaurant in Calistoga afterward.
This guided hike and community ritual is by donation, $40 suggested; no one turned away. Please confirm with Daniel if you plan to attend: danieljfoor@gmail.com

Ways to Get Involved with the Alliance
The Earth Medicine Alliance is a community-oriented endeavor focused on helping humans to heal and enliven our relations with the rest of the natural world. One of the best ways you can support our work is by making a donation to support our efforts. The Alliance is a fully tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit, and we run entirely on volunteer effort.
To inquire about becoming part of our team, email Daniel Foor at danieljfoor@gmail.com. We are committed to having fun and supporting each other in our efforts.
Alliance Wish List and Current Needs:
- Voices of the Earth Project. If you have technical skills with conducting or producing refined interviews in a web archive format we welcome that support. We're also open to suggestions for earth-honoring elders and teachers in the Bay Area to interview.
- Web maintenance and refinement. We are in acute need of a webmaster who knows or who can learn Joomla. This person would need to be self-directed and enjoy the task of improving the quality/appearance of the site.
- Board of Directors. We are a working Board of seven, and we have space for others if it's a good fit. If you have prior experience serving on a non-profit board, and especially if you have fundraising, marketing, business, or other such practical skills, please feel good about contacting us.
- Making new connections. Are there family or friends in your life or public figures (e.g., religious leaders, teachers, ritualists, earth activists) who you feel would benefit from knowing about our work? If there is any way we can support you in this sharing, please be in touch. We also have a Facebook page (search for Earth Medicine Alliance).
