Food drive

Cougars Can "Fill the Bus Campaign"
Cougars CanWell, we did it!!!  Our food drive was a huge success this year!!  Bigger than it's ever been!!!  Not only did we FILL a school bus, but we also sent two pick-up trucks full of food to the Northland Food Bank. Food will be distributed to local area food banks and to churches in the Northwest Houston area. Your generous donations mean so much to so many and will make a difference in people's lives. Thanks to all those who helped make our food drive a success.  A special thank you to all the teachers who encouraged students to participate. We couldn't have done it without you!!

An extra special thank you to Chris Norwood who not only drove our filled bus over to the food bank, but also donated the entire Varsity Boy's Soccer Team to help unload the food. You rock!! The class with the most donations at the Elementary Campus will get an ice cream party and for those of you at the Secondary Campus, the week of December 6th will be spirit wear!!!  Way to go Cougars!!!  We "can" and we did!

Northland Choirs Record a Christmas CD

Choir recordingFor the first time in NCS history, Northland choirs have recorded a CD of Christmas music! This compilation features the Elementary Honor Choir, Middle School, High School Choirs and Select 16! Many of these same songs will be performed at the Christmas Concert Dec. 7th but others can only be heard on the CD. This Christmas treasure can be yours as a thank you gift for a donation supporting the NCS Fine Arts Society who paid for all production costs. Contributions made prior to December 3rd will assure that your CDs will be waiting for you to pick up at the Concert on Dec. 7th and avoid the added cost of shipping.Ellen Marsh

NCS Senior, Ellen Marsh, provided the artwork on the CD. The front of the CD is a beautiful outdoor scene featuring a home with smoke rising from the hearth inside. "When people open the CD, I want it to be like opening the door of their home and stepping inside where they will see gifts surrounding a beautiful Christmas tree!", Ellen explained. Blessed with many gifts, she has been featured in many theater arts productions, Choir and Select 16 as well as AP Art. After graduation, Ellen plans to major in architecture.

Elementary Technology Update
Elementary technology has taken on an entirely new look this school year! Idex Global Services, specialists in communications cabling and IT services, has installed a completely new wireless network that has access points to the Internet in every classroom. This new network will ensure faster and more reliable Internet access for the faculty and students on the Elementary Campus. The new network is being managed and monitored 24/7 by Covenant Technology Services. Covenant Technology has been serving their clients in the Houston area for over 15 years. One of their specialties is providing network support for private schools in the Houston area.

In addition to the improvements to the wireless network, the following technology advancements have been completed:

Fifth grade
Access to MacBook computers in a grade level dedicated COW (computers on wheels);

Fourth grade
MacBook computers in a grade level dedicated COW;

Third grade -- MacBook computers in a grade level dedicated COW;

The science lab is equipped with MacBook computers for use by 3rd through 5th grade students during science classes;

The elementary computer lab has been outfitted with 19 PC laptop computers that are available for use by all PreKindergarten through 2nd grader students;

Third through Fifth grade students have individual Google Docs accounts and access to print as needed.

PreKindergarten through 5th grade will use the online supplemental math program 'Aha! Math'. This program will provide additional opportunities for each student to learn the regular math curriculum utilizing a variety of learning styles and methods.

PreKindergarten through 5th grade will use 'EasyTech' online technology curriculum. This curriculum will enable teachers to integrate technology into each of the core subjects. 'EasyTech' curriculum also concentrates on specific technology skills and topics such as keyboarding and cyberbullying,

We are excited about the technology upgrades on the elementary campus and eagerly anticipating the endless educational opportunities that await the faculty and students!

Sharathon

Sharathon is the one annual fund-raising event that enables NCS to meet its ongoing operation budget requirements. Tuition and fees cover only 95% of our operating expenses. Donations collected through Sharathon enable us to meet our ongoing obligations and remain financially healthy. Because of your donations, we are able to hold tuition to a reasonable level. Sharathon giving allows us to allocate money to our Tuition Assistance Program. this program supplements the educational costs for students of lower income families. Your donation to Sharathon is an affirmative vote of support for what we are doing to improve Northland Christian School.
