Parents, You're in the Driver's Seat When
it comes to your student's laptop use, you have the ability (and
responsibility) to control and monitor their safe and appropriate use of
the internet.
Please
review the following information which will give you the tools you
need to help guide your student appropriately.
KEY INFO All computers have two preset accounts.
Admin is the school maintained account. This account should not be removed or altered.
Parent is
the administrative account for home and family use. It has no password
until one is chosen and entered by a parent. Parents will need to create
an account and account type for their student.
There are three options for student accounts
- managed, standard, and administrator - each is a little different and
will allow both parents and students different capabilities.
Account setup can be accessed by going to System Preferences, Accounts, and clicking the small + on the left hand side of your screen.
Managed - This
type must be chosen for use with Parental Controls and allows the user
access to all programs, but will not allow installation of programs.
Parental Controls allow the computer to be turned on and off at certain
times based on personal preferences, along with basic website
monitoring.
Standard - This type of account must be chosen for families using eBlaster software.
Administrator - This account type gives your student full and unrestricted access to the computer. Administrative accounts cannot be monitored.
Please refer to Apple's website for more information on Parental Controls. |
----------------------------------------------------------------- NCS Tech Policy Reminder The use of all Northland laptop computers must be in support of education and research, and must be consistent with the goals and criteria of NCS. It is our goal to teach ethical and respectful use of technology.
Students are responsible for appropriate behavior on the laptops and the school network just as they are in a classroom or anywhere on the school grounds. General school rules for behavior and communications apply. Students are personally responsible for their actions in accessing and utilizing the school's technology resources. The students are expected to never access, keep, or send anything that they would not want their parents or teachers to see.
