Greetings!

It gives me great pleasure to announce Friends of the Arts Commission's fundraising campaign, $35 for 35 years. Yes, SMAC and Friends were formed 35 years ago! To celebrate, we created this report of our accomplishments, download here. We have made giving, in increments of 35, very easy through online giving, here.  We would be very gratefully if you would continue to support our work by giving $35, $350 or $3500 this calendar year. The funds support our programs in and for arts education, public art, artists and arts groups.

Special thanks to Kay Sprinkel Grace and the 47 people who spent this last Saturday with us for an inspirational Board Development for Arts Organizations workshop. Most of the participants were board members representing 23 local nonprofits. They were enthusiastic about going back to their organizations and applying what they learned. If you haven't signed up yet, I hope you will register for another training with Kay on June 2nd.

Thanks are also due to the Nonprofit Resource Center for their great workshop in using social media for fundraising. The second in the series is open to everyone on June 15th, click here.  We also have a workshop planned on Individual Donor Development with Marcy Cady on June 11th, click here for more info.

Lastly, today is our deadline to submit an application to become our next Poet Laureate. This is a program with so much heart.  Each of our past laureates have graced the general community with more than 200 free poetry events during their term. This year the guidelines were revised in order to reach out to spoken word and slam poets. We have always received a diverse pool of about 8-10 applicants and hope for about the same this year. The Commission may choose to re-open the search after further outreach if we receive less applicants.

Warm regards,

Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director
