Greetings!
As the former editor of my 9th grade poetry magazine and its major contributor (of really terrible poems I might add), I have always been a happy cheerleader of Sacramento's amazing and vibrant poetry scene. Our Poet Laureate program is about a dozen years old now, having contributed about 200 poetry readings annually to our region, plus a book, a deck of cards dedicated to our local first generation poets, and a major poetry festival. We are now searching for a new poet to lead the way. Find out more here.
As we enter April I want to draw attention to the California Arts Council, an important statewide institution determined to truly fund the arts - their goal is to raise $40 million over the next year. California is now 49th in the U.S. on per capita giving, and by buying a license plate designed by Sacramento's own Wayne Thiebaud or painlessly adding a small donation on your tax return, you can help California get it together again! If every California taxpayer gave $1, there would be $15 million for the arts. Find out how you can participate here.
Warm regards,
Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission |
