Arts Commission Update
| October 24, 2011 |
Greetings!
Our fundraising evening at Ella's was perfect.
I doubt there is another arts commission in the United States that has watched the very elected officials that cut their budget so deeply, turn around and join together to help raise private dollars to offset those very cuts!
We had over 90 guests; the mood was joyful and fun; and the crowd could not have been more supportive of the importance of our role in Sacramento. Arts Commission Chair Carlin Naify gave a very smart talk about the tangible benefit of our programs in the community.
Maestro Michael Morgan from the Sacramento Philharmonic and Artistic Director Stephanie Gularte from Capital Stage spoke eloquently on the importance of the Cultural Arts Awards (CAA) program to their organizations and all the arts groups in the area.
Chef Randall Selland and his staff could not have been more generous or helpful and he has already offered to make this an annual event. Other potential funders and partners reached out to us with their desire to work with us on future events.
Between Muriel Johnson's fundraiser and this evening's event, we have just about raised the $64,324 that was cut from our 2012 CAA budget. Our mission at the Arts Commission is advancing community through arts and culture. I was very honored to witness the arts actually creating community before my very eyes.
Warm thanks to all,
Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission |

Press Conference for Any Given Child
Mayor Highlights Sacramento Arts Commission
The Arts Commission has been providing arts education services for more than 15 years. At his October 18th press conference, Mayor Kevin Johnson highlighted the work the Arts Commission has done this year to implement the arts education programming for the pilot year of Any Given Child.
The Mayor described how over 37,000 students in Twin Rivers and Sacramento City Unified School Districts were able to have an arts experience provided by local arts organizations and artists through this program. In partnership with For Arts Sake, the Arts Commission continues to develop and administer arts programming and professional development for artists and classroom teachers for Any Given Child. |
