SMAC UpdateSeptember 26, 2011

Greetings!

SMAC APP Director Shelly Willis on stage with airport artistsLast week 500 art enthusiasts witnessed the opening of the public art at the Airport. It was a thrilling evening; the artists felt honored and appreciated, our guests were fascinated and excited by the new work, and Queen for the Day Art in Public Places Director Shelly Willis (pictured at right with several of the airport artists, clad in labcoats for a dramatic stage entrance, compliments of Jon Stevenson) was warmly acknowledged for her impeccable leadership of the entire four+ year project. The building itself, a ten-year project, is exquisite. The artwork makes it look even better; like a living museum. Special thanks to chair Carlin Naify for hosting a truly elegant evening.

Take a look at photos of the completed artworks here, learn about the art & the artists here, and for more information on the project, go here. Let me know what you think next time you travel!

Also, in just a few days, ARTOBER, the Sacramento region's celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month begins. There are over 150 events going on throughout the five counties in the Capital Area, and we hope you will enjoy as many of them as you can. If you want more information about ARTOBER go to Sacramento365.com or Artobersac.org. Have a great ARTOBER!

Warm regards,

Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director
