Greetings!
This summer, older adults are enthusiastically participating in classes in visual arts, poetry and theatre as part of SMAC's Creative Aging Initiative. Increasing research shows that involvement in artistic activities can help older adults live longer, healthier lives with more vital cognitive functioning, especially if those activities take people beyond what they currently know or have experienced. The Creative Aging classes are taught by teaching artists and encourage elders to try out arts disciplines that are new to them at sites where they already gather.
Artists Gerry Simpson, Cherie Hacker, Gail Dartez, and JoAnn Anglin are leading classes at Stanford Settlement Senior Center, Pioneer Towers, and Jefferson Manor Eskaton this summer. Find out more>
