SMAC UpdateJuly 25, 2011

Greetings!

At this very moment all over the United States there are many exciting arts initiatives taking form. Vacant buildings on lonely streets are being turned into artist live/work spaces; coffee shops, restaurants, galleries and gift shops sprouting up nearby. Businesses are looking for creative workers for their talent pool. The tourism industry is using collaborations with arts commissions to attract cultural travelers. Even the police are getting in on the act (find out about police writing poems here). The creative industries are just starting to show their muscle.

In Detroit, 13 organizations including businesses, colleges and nonprofits are collaborating on a ventures-in-residence program. Find out more>

The creative industries are simmering in our region. Sacramento, too, is poised for great and creative things.

Warm regards,

Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director
