SMAC UpdateJune 27, 2011

Greetings!

Last week was a great week for the community's showing of support for the arts. Successful arts fundraisers were held every night of the week for California Musical Theatre, the Crocker Art Rehearsal, Center for Contemporary Art Sacramento, and SMAC!

Many thanks to the 200+ folks who came out to support us at Muriel Johnson's fundraiser at her home last week. We really appreciate it. We also are grateful to the artists, arts groups, and local businesses that donated paintings and event tickets. Please enjoy a few snapshots here.

In fact, we still have a great River Cats 'Suite' Night for baseball, including 16 luxury owner suite tickets for a home game this August and 4 preferred parking passes. So let me know if you are a baseball fan!

All the proceeds from the event will be directed to our fund that supports nonprofit arts organizations, Sacramento's lifeblood. These organizations have been hit hard by declining contributions in both the public and private sectors. We will continue to do all we can to support them.

As our new fiscal year approaches--even with a smaller budget and staff--I am sincerely excited about SMAC's future. Our mission to advance community through arts and culture is strong. We will add new services and programs that serve Sacramento's creative economies.

Regards,

Rhyena Halpern, Executive Director

Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission

P.S. The SMAC office will be closed next Monday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Please look for our e-newsletter on Tuesday, July 5.

Arts & Economic Prosperity

Learn how you can help us get funding for the arts.

Arts & Economic Impact Study LogoData is now being collected for "Arts & Economic Prosperity IV," our comprehensive economic impact study for arts and culture, conducted in partnership with Americans for the Arts and the Arts & Business Council. The data collected from this study will help us build a strong case for public and private investments in the arts, and will provide significant visibility for our industry at a time as SMAC works to secure long-term, dedicated funding for the arts in Sacramento.

By now, every arts and cultural organization in Sacramento County should have received an email requesting budget information be entered at the California Cultural Data Project for this study. All budget information should be entered by July 15th. If you represent a nonprofit arts or cultural organization, and have not yet received an email but would like to participate, please contact Anja.
